A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

STEVENAGE v BRENTFORD
Football – England – League One
Tuesday 5th March 2013 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

STEVENAGE

Stevenage will be looking to end their current wretched run of form when they host fourth placed Brentford at their Lamex Stadium, but this won’t be an easy task against a Brentford outfit who are also in search of all three points to move closer to the top two in League One.

Stevenage have lost their last six league matches on the trot with defeats against Carlisle United 1-2, Brentford (0-2 away in the corresponding fixture), Oldham Athletic 1-2, Shrewsbury Town 1-2, Scunthorpe United 0-1 and a 0-2 loss at home to Colchester United at the weekend. What is most worrying for Stevenage is the fact that five of these six losses were against lower half opposition, and with the visit of Brentford (who have already beaten Stevenage at Griffin Park), the dreadful losing run could well continue here on Tuesday night.

Stevenage have actually chalked up just one league win at home in their last ten on home soil which was a 2-0 win over Notts County at the beginning of February, but their last ten matches have seen eight defeats inflicted upon them with just a point against Tranmere Rovers the other consolation.

Stevenage’s home record now stands at a very disappointing 4-5-8 20/29 in a season where they were expected to make the next step in terms of a challenge for promotion to the Championship following last season’s play-off adventures, but this campaign has been sadly lacking last season’s successes.

BRENTFORD

Brentford have been one of the more consistent performers this season and as the season heads towards deciding who will be in line for automatic promotion and the play-off places, The Bees have remained firm despite seeing the likes of Bournemouth and Tranmere Rovers falter in recent weeks.

Their narrow 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United ensured their place in the play-off pack but they will now want to kick on and put pressure on Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United for a tilt at automatic promotion, with Brentford being just three points behind The Blades.

Brentford recently experienced a mini-blip themselves with defeats against Tranmere and Yeovil, but it appears the ship has been steadied and they will be confident of getting something at Stevenage on Tuesday night.

Brentford’s away record stands at 6-7-3 19/16 and they’ve lost just once in their last nine away matches which was the 0-3 result at Yeovil Town who have been in magnificent form of late. Wins at Swindon Town, Notts County, Colchester United, Oldham and Crawley Town show they are no push-overs on their travels and they could indeed rack up another three points here.

THE BETTING VERDICT:

Stevenage’s confidence must be approaching rock-bottom if not already there, and with Brentford having the incentive of getting closer to the top two tonight, I’ll back the visitors giving the quarter ball as I’m confident they can take Stevenage here; could be a 2-0 win for Brentford.

The Pick :

Stevenage 0 Brentford 2
