NORWICH CITY
Norwich City take on West Brom in their Sunday encounter at Carrow Road with the home side desperate to take all three points which would pull them away from the relegation trap-door and potentially ensure their Premiership status for another season.
Norwich are just three points ahead of Wigan Athletic who occupy the last remaining relegation spot with just two matches of the season remaining. As this is the last of The Canaries’ home matches they will no doubt be looking to take advantage of their visitors’ poor away record as The Baggies have won just twice in their last nine matches which includes six defeats.
Norwich have also been poor in the last couple of months with just one league win from their last nine matches but at home they appear to be a little more solid with their recent defeat against Aston Villa their first reverse in seven matches at Carrow Road. They have a home record of 7-7-4 21/20 but until the Villa match they had secured wins over Everton and Reading and held Newcastle United, Tottenham, Fulham, Southampton and Swansea City to stalemates.
Norwich’s creative resource has been supplied by Snodgrass (5 goals, 5 assists) who unsurprisingly has replicated his Championship form on the big stage with The Canaries. Striker Holt (6 goals, 2 assists) is Norwich’s leading goalscorer and he seems to have the knack of scoring crucial goals when required.
WEST BROM
Visitors West Brom have had a magnificent season in the top flight by their standards, achieving one of their highest league positions for some years under the guidance of former Chelsea assistant manager Steve Clarke.
Clarke has achieved what many former West Brom managers before him have failed to do and that is to shore up their defensive unit particularly at home where they’ve conceded just 20 goals.
However, this defensive form doesn’t often make an appearance on their travels as West Brom’s away record is a less than impressive 5-3-10 21/28 and just three clean sheets on their travels so far. Rare wins at Liverpool 2-0 and Southampton 3-0 have been the highlights in what has been a horrific away run for them consisting of six defeats in their last nine.
THE BETTING VERDICT:
Norwich will want to make their season safe in front of their home faithful particularly given that their last match of the season is at Old Trafford with everyone in a red shirt wanting to send Fergie off with his last win, along with West Brom’s rather leaky away defence, I’ll take Norwich City and give the quarter ball at still good odds. A 1-0 win for Norwich I feel.
