There’s action from the Dutch top flight on Saturday afternoon as Waalwijk play host to Heerenveen in the Eredivisie at their Mandemakers Stadion with both teams looking to further boost their claims for a possible top seven finish in the division.
The international break for the World Cup probably came at just the right time for Waalwijk as they’d suffered a particularly heavy 6-1 defeat away from home at NEC just before, but they now return to home soil for Saturday’s encounter, no doubt looking to build upon their impressive 3-1 home win over AZ last time out at their Mandemakers Stadion.
Indeed, 10th placed Waalwijk have produced some fairly consistent performances on home turf as the hosts have lost just twice in their last nine home games overall in the Eredivisie and have picked up some impressive wins against Groningen, Heracles, Excelsior, Cambuur and AZ during this period as well.
Heerenveen sit in 8th place in the Eredivisie table and the visitors look poised to break into the top seven pack at some stage with only a point separating them from 7th placed Utrecht, heading into this weekend’s Dutch top flight action.
Heerenveen will be keen to pick up where they left off before the World Cup break following back to back victories over Excelsior and Cambuur, in 1-0 and 2-1 wins respectively but it’s worth mentioning that the visitors had collected just two wins from their preceding eight games beforehand.
During that former lean period, Heerenveen had been handed defeats by Ajax, PSV and Utrecht but they do bring a four-match unbeaten run on the road into this Saturday’s clash at the Mandemakers Stadion, which includes wins at Volendam and Excelsior - both of whom sit in the bottom five of the Eredivisie.
