Sunday 29th June 2025 - Kick Off 4pm (9pm British Time)
This game is live on TV
Flamengo
The two South American representatives from Argentina have both been dumped out in the Group Stage of the Club World Cup, but all four Brazilian teams have made it through to the Knock Out Rounds. Arguably the most impressive of all were Flamengo, but they have perhaps been given the toughest route in the Knock Out Bracket even after topping their section.
An unbeaten run through the Group Stage included a win over Chelsea and Flamengo were one of the first clubs who officially made it through to the Second Round having secured their place after winning the first two fixtures. The final draw with Los Angeles FC will not have slowed any momentum and Flamengo have shown they have plenty about them to cause any opponent problems.
Flamengo are unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions and they had won 6 in succession before the dead rubber draw with Los Angeles FC in the last Group game at the Club World Cup. In 5 of those victories, Flamengo have been able to score at least twice, including in both wins over Tunis and Chelsea at this tournament.
With passage secured to the next Round, Flamengo were able to ring the changes for the last Group match.
Bayern Munich
At the end of a long season, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany will know that the conditions in the United States are very tough for his team to deal with. That led to him making several changes for the last Group match having already seen Bayern Munich make it through to the Second Round, but it may prove to be a costly decision.
After beating Auckland City and Boca Juniors, Bayern Munich needed just a point against Benfica to finish top of the Group and move into the 'weaker' half of the Knock Out Bracket. However, the players coming in were not able to produce a big enough performance as they fell behind and the stronger members of the squad were not quite able to do enough to help Bayern Munich rally for a draw, despite the quality chances they had been creating.
Bayern Munich had been unbeaten in 9 games in all competitions since losing to Inter Milan in the Champions League Quarter Final, but that run was ended in the defeat to Benfica. The side had been scoring plenty of goals during that unbeaten run which made the failure to find the back of the net in the last Group game a real disappointment.
The likes of Michael Olise and Harry Kane will be restored to starting roles as Bayern Munich look to reach the Quarter Final of the competition.
Head to Head
This is the first competitive meeting between these clubs.
Prediction
The positioning of the new Club World Cup looks to have benefited the Brazilian teams playing at the tournament with those teams in the midst of the domestic season and looking fresher than many of the others competing in the United States.
In recent years the tournament has taken place during the European season, which has given those clubs an edge, but that has not been the case so far.
Some encouragement will be taken by Bayern Munich after a decent win over Boca Juniors, but this is a significant test for them. They have played well in all three Group games, but failure to earn a point against Benfica has handed them this tough Second Round draw.
However, the key players did earn some rest in the last Group game and that could help Bayern Munich.
There has to be a real respect for Flamengo and how they have played at the Club World Cup.
Momentum had been earned ahead of the tournament with some strong domestic results and the big win over Chelsea will give them plenty of confidence.
Bayern Munich are a tougher test though and the German Champions may just find a way past this difficult opponent thanks to the attacking qualities they possess. The Brazilian team will offer plenty threat of their own, but Bayern Munich can do enough to move through to the Quarter Final and see the first club Knocked Out of the tournament by a non-Brazilian opponent.
