A Sports Betting Pick by Auls

Wolves v Sunderland
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 2nd May 2026 - Kick Off 3pm

Wolves

They offered some resistance and the fans were enjoying the efforts of the Wolves players in their bid to drag Tottenham Hotspur into the Championship with them. Rob Edwards will be hoping the squad retains the character, but he will also be aware that Wolves need to bring in more quality in the summer if they are going to make an immediate return to the Premier League and offer much more at this level.

There is still a chance for Wolves to finish above Burnley in the final standings, but the confirmation of relegation will have hurt and Wolves have to pick themselves up after that disappointment. The home form now reads at 3-3-11 in the Premier League after the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday.

Wolves have failed to win any of the last 5 games in all competitions and they have been beaten 4 times in that run following the defeat here last Saturday. It makes it back to back home defeats, but Wolves had won 2 Premier League games in a row at Molineux before the 0-1 defeat to Spurs.

Yerson Mosquera and Ladislav Krejci are both hoping to be available.

Sunderland

Securing another season in the Premier League was the priority for Regis Le Bris and his Sunderland team when the season began in August 2025 and the manager deserves plenty of respect for securing a second season in the top flight before May has even ticked around. However, that does not mean that Le Bris, the players and the fans can accept too many more efforts like the one produced in the 0-5 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

It is a defeat that has dented European ambitions, but Sunderland are still 12th in the Premier League table and very much in contention with a number of clubs. The Black Cats have based the successes of this season on home form and Sunderland head to the Midlands with a 4-5-8 away record in this Division.

Sunderland's thumping defeat to Nottingham Forest means they have lost 4 of the last 6 games in all competitions, although both exceptions were in winning efforts against Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. This is a team that showed plenty of desire in coming back from 3-1 down and forcing the fixture back to 3-3, but Sunderland were eventually beaten 4-3 and they have lost 2 and won 2 of the last 4 away games played in all competitions.

A number of players are missing through injury, but the squad should be similar to the one that were available last weekend.

Head to Head

Sunderland beat Wolves 2-0 at home earlier this season.

Wolves are unbeaten in 7 at home against Sunderland, but a 3 game winning run was ended when these two clubs played out a goalless draw in December 2017 when both were in the Championship.

Prediction

They showed some real effort at Villa Park a couple of weeks ago, but the Sunderland home loss to Nottingham Forest and the manner in which it occurred will have some wondering if the players are really as focused as would be hoped.

There is still a real chance of earning a spot in European Football for next season, but Sunderland will need to get things turned around.

Conceding nine goals in a couple of Premier League defeats will make people question the desire, but Regis Le Bris may choose to freshen things up if he feels his team are not focused or intense.

Sunderland will be looking to bounce back on Saturday when travelling to a Wolves team who have lost 4 of the last 5 games in all competitions. A couple of recent home losses have dented the confidence of a group of players who know relegation is already confirmed.

With that said, it is a tough ask of Rob Edwards to be able to lift the spirits of his players and get the best out of them. He has been experimenting a little bit and Edwards may not want to risk any assets that may need to be sold in the summer.

Wolves have shown they can be dangerous, but they continue to lack the quality needed at both ends of the pitch.

It says something that Sunderland are odds against, which is a much bigger price than Tottenham Hotspur were to win here last weekend. It may be partly down to the fact that Sunderland have 'less to play for' and the recent results have suggested a lack of focus, but The Black Cats may be underestimated here to get the better of a Wolves team that have lost 4 of the last 5 games in all competitions.

The Pick :

Wolves 0-2 Sunderland
