Bayern Munich Face Tough Trip to Dortmund

The pre-season Bundesliga betting showed reigning Champions Bayern Munich as short odds to retain their title under new coach, Jurgen Klinsmann.

The Bavarians failed to impress last weekend on matchday one, drawing at home to Hamburg, and though still favourites for the German championship Bayern Munich have slipped to 1.66 in the outright Bundesliga betting at PinnacleSports.com.

Bayern Munich looked to have made the perfect start to the new season under new coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, scoring twice in the first 16 minutes at home to Hamburg.

HSV however, hadn’t read the script, levelling the scores with goals either side of half-time, which means for the first time in five years that Bayern Munich didn’t win on the opening day of the season.

The Bavarians have conceded five goals in their opening two competitive games, having struggled past third division Elfurt 4-3, on August 10th.

Bayern are certainly missing Luca Toni, Franck Ribery and Martin Demichelis, but must regroup before Saturday’s tough fixture at Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund will be buzzing after an impressive 3-2 opening win at Bayer Leverkusen, but lost Brazilian defender Dede with cruciate ligament damage.

The club have also sold Croatian international striker, Mladen Petric, to Hamburg, receiving Egyptian international, Mohamed Zidan, in a straight swap.

Dortmund and Munich faced each other in the German Super Cup at the end of July, with Borussia upsetting the odds with a 2-1 win, while this fixture last season ended as a 0-0 draw.

Both clubs will hope players return safely from international duty, and I'm interested to see that the bookmakers have Dortmund 3.50+ outsiders for this game.

THE VERDICT

Borussia Dortmund haven't been a great home side in recent seasons, but they still win more games than they lose with a 29-20-19 record over the last four seasons.

Dortmund also seem to play best when Bayern come visiting with a 3-2-1 advantage over the last six head to head league clashes played here.

I have this game as very close, and as such I have to favour the result with the biggest price.
