Horse Racing News :: Preakness Stakes Build-up - Can Animal Kingdom win another Triple Crown race?

Another Preakness Stakes means another chance for the Kentucky Derby champion to take another step down the Triple Crown trail.

Animal Kingdom, winner of this year's Kentucky Derby, is set to take on 13 rivals for the Preakness Stakes.

The shortest race in the three-race series, the Preakness Stakes often favors frontrunners. Animal Kingdom will have to contend with Shackleford once more, who set the pace in the Kentucky Derby – but will also have to face some speedy newcomers looking to spoil his Triple Crown bid.

Dance City and Flashpoint are two of the speedier horses in the 14-horse field. Trained by Todd Pletcher, Dance City has won two of three races this year and finished third in the Arkansas Derby (G1) in April. He posted a bullet 5-furlong breeze in 1:00.20 at Churchill Downs on May 15 and looks ready for a breakout performance. A Wesley Ward trainee, Flashpoint won the Hutcheson Stakes (G2) Feb. 26 and earned a 102 Beyer Speed Figure – one of the season’s best.
