Icelandic Football News :: Iceland Urvalsdelid Round 8 Results Summary

Round 8 results :
IBV - Stjarnan 2-1
Fylkir - Thor 1-1
Valur - Vikingur 2-1
Grindavik - KR 0-3
Breidablik - Keflavik 2-1
Fram - FH 1-2
IBV - Stjarnan 2-1
IBV looked tired after a difficult Cup game against Valur. Stjarnan seemed to upset them in the beginning with high pressure. Stjarnan had their chances but IBV were the first to score and then Stjarnan missed a penalty kick. Stjarnan managed to level before a very dubious penalty where IBV scored the winning goal.
IBV's manager was very unhappy after the game, even though his team had won, and said they did not play well.
Fylkir - Thor 1-1
Fylkir with their strong midfield and good attacking play should've finnished the game up in the first half where they had many chances. The first minutes where amazing where Thor got the lead early on but Fylkir leveled just 3 minutes later.
The second half was very boring where Thor sat back letting Fylkir having the ball without producing anything. Therefore, Thor continues with their new tactics which have been snatching up the points for them. They simply stopped their childish offensive play and tightened up the defense which has worked so well.
Valur - Vikingur 2-1
The first part of this game was total Valur domination where they should've finnished it. Vikingur, like in recent games, seemed not to be a part of the game. However, when Valur's goalkeeper (U21 goalie) was sent off around mid first half everything changed. The game went dead and nothing happened until Vikingur got the lead with just 10 minutes remaining.
But unbelieveably Vikingur managed to lose it. Their manager started shifting the team's setup around creating insecurity on the field and Valur leveled with a penalty kick. They quicky got the ball and ran to the midfield with it and got ready to fight for all three points. Their continous fighting spirits payed when they scored the winning goal in the last second.
Once again the trouble with Valur's slow defense was seen. When they move high up they get in trouble but their amazing fighting spirits which have been seen in their games payed off once again.
Grindavik - KR 0-3
KR's manager started with three key players on the bench after the tough game against FH in the cup. Nothing at all happened in the first half but a whole new KR team got onto the pitch in the second half and finished it of nicely. Still, they were lucky not to concede straight away after their first goal.
KR is the best team in the league at the moment, there is no question about it. Their not playing any elegant football but they continue going on like a solid machine, doing what they need.
Breidablik - Keflavik 2-1
Breidablik started better but slowly Keflavik gained the control and got the lead. Breidablik came back and K. Steindorsson scored the two goals needed to take all three points. He has been on fire lately and has scored 7 goals in 8 games so far.
An important win for the current champions but Keflavik is struggling and tend to sit back with nothing going on up front.
Fram - FH 1-2
FH totally dominated the first minutes and could've finnished it very early. However, they made things a bit difficult but managed to score just before half time. After they scored the second goal it was over.
Fram managed to score one but they really are looking bad. Their defense was very open and insecure and now their key defender and U21 national team player, Jon Gudni Fjoluson, has played his last game for them as he is heading out into professionalism in Belgium.
Another very strange thing for Fram in this game like in so many others is their complete lack of will and fighting spirits. After they got it to 1-2 FH got a player sent off but nothing happened after that. Fram didn't seem to have the interest to attck and just played with a slow tempo passing the ball back and forth.
