German Bundesliga News :: Wolfsburg take a big step towards Bundesliga title with emphatic win

Wolfsburg moved a big step closer to the Bundesliga title with a thumping 5-0 win at Hannover while Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw at Hoffenheim.

Wolfsburg started the day level on points with defending champions Bayern at the summit and with a slightly better goal difference.

But the Wolves scored a 5-0 win at Hannover and are two points clear of Bayern and with a +7 GD advantage they should only need a point next weekend at home to Werder Bremen to be crowned champions.



Bayern Munich drew 2-2 at Hoffenheim after they took the lead through a Franck Ribery goal but Demba Ba and Carlos Eduardo scored twice for the home side before Luca Toni equalised before halftime.

Stuttgart are in 3rd after a home 2-0 win over Energie Cottbus. Thomas Hitzlsperger and Cacau were the men on target.

Hertha Berlin drew 0-0 at home to Schalke to end their title aspirations as they are three points behind Wolfsburg and only a +11 goal difference - 24 goals less than Wolfsburg.

The race for the fifth spot and the final European position is between two clubs.

Hamburg lost 1-0 at home to Cologne in a surprise result as Cologne's Fabrice Ehret netted the only goal of the game after nine minutes to send Martin Jol's one-time league leaders down a place to sixth.

Borussia Dortmund thrashed Arminia Bielefeld 6-0 to climb into 5th spot and will only need to match Hamburg's final day result to ensure a European place.
