Football: English League One

Carlisle United
Carlisle United remain one of the more exciting teams to watch in the lower Leagues and their start to the season will have fans wondering if they can get a little push and perhaps make their way into the Play Offs at the least come May.
The team are 13th in the League One table after a 2-2 draw with Swindon Town over the weekend and that has seen them reach 8 points from their opening games in the League. Carlisle have a 1-1-1 record at home so far this season, scoring 6 goals and conceding 7.
They have picked up 4 points from their last two League games and are now unbeaten in 3 in all competitions following a loss to the MK Dons. Carlisle are unbeaten in their last 4 home games in all competitions since a loss to Tranmere Rovers, although they have drawn their last 3. They have lost just 2 of their last 22 home games in the League.
James Berrett is suspended following a fifth booking of the season in the weekend game against Swindon. Liam Noble is also suspended for this game.
Crewe
Crewe are another team that likes to play their football, although they may have to sometimes get away from their philosophy as they look to retain their place in League One following their promotion from League Two last season. They have made a decent start towards survival in the early part of the 2012/13 season.
Like their opponents Carlisle United, Crewe have also picked up 8 points so far this season. The team have a 1-1-1 record away from home so far this season, scoring 5 goals but conceding 8, although they did drop a couple of points in an away game at Stevenage over the weekend.
It will have felt like drop points at the end of the day as Crewe were leading 0-2 at Stevenage before finishing with a 2-2 result. It does mean Crewe have extended their run to 3 unbeaten in the League since a 5-1 loss at Brentford and they have now lost just 1 of their last 11 away League games going back to last season.
Mathias Pogba and Chuks Ameka are both missing for the side in this one through injuries and suspensions. Michael West is also missing for Crewe.
Head to Head
Carlisle United and Crewe last met in the Cup a couple of seasons ago when Carlisle won 3-1 here.
That means Carlisle have now won 3 of their last 4 home games against Crewe, the exception being an FA Cup loss.
Prediction
I think there is every chance that Carlisle United could pick up their second home win of the season in this one, but I am going to back the game to have 3 or more goals in it instead as I believe that is the safer option.
Both teams like getting the ball down and attacking their opposition and both will think they are capable of picking up the win in this game.
Carlisle have been scoring and conceding goals at will so far in the early part of the season and they have become known for getting involved in high scoring games as the defence is a little vulnerable.
It won't have an easy time against a Crewe team that will be looking to make up for the disappointment of blowing a 2 goal lead at the weekend in Stevenage. The away side have also shown they are capable of scoring goals, but they too are a little vulnerable at the back and that only strengthens my belief that goals are on the menu in this one.
It is being offered at 1.90 that we see at least 3 goals in this game and that is what I will be backing.
The Pick :
Carlisle United 2-1 Crewe
