English FA CUP

2012-11-12 - AFC Wimbledon vs York City

A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

AFC WIMBLEDON v YORK CITY
Football – England – FA Cup 1st Round Replay
Monday 12th November 2012 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

AFC Wimbledon and York City clash for the third time in just nine days in tonight’s FA Cup 1st round replay, with last weekend’s fixture ending in a 1-1 draw, and they will meet again in a League Two match on Saturday prior to Monday night.

AFC Wimbledon

Looking at AFC Wimbledon’s fortunes first, they’ve actually won just three matches in their last seventeen in all competitions which underlines why they are currently struggling in League Two, sitting in 21st place just one point ahead of Barnet and Aldershot Town who occupy the relegation places.

The Wombles have won just once in their last seven at their Cherry Red Records Stadium, and they have not kept a clean sheet during this latest run either which will present visitors York City a chance of staying in the tie and indeed, actually winning the tie.

Byron Harrison (6 goals) leads their scoring and has former Oxford United striker Jack Midson (2 goals, 1 assist) up front alongside him. Other key players include Rashid Yussuff and Sammy Moore (2 goals apiece), but history suggests that the hosts could struggle again when York visit as the Minstermen have won three of the last five matches, with one draw and a AFC Wimbledon win.

York City

York City have held their own in League Two since their promotion from The Blue Square Premier at the end of last season and are unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions.

In League Two, they are a tough unit to break down on their travels with just one loss to their name in their last eight matches with wins at Barnet 3-1, Aldershot Town 2-0 and Accrington Stanley 1-0 along with points at Morecambe, Exeter City, Bradford City and Southend United.

The Minstermen have also kept three clean sheets on the road in the league and if they keep things tight at Wimbledon in this fixture, they stand every chance of progressing through to the next round.

Ashley Chambers (6 goals, 2 assists) leads the way for York, but they appear to have greater depth in attacking options with the likes of striker Jason Walker (4 goals) and Matty Blair (3 goals) along with Michael Coulson.

The Betting Verdict :

AFC Wimbledon’s poor form combined with York’s usually solid performances particularly away from home should see the visitors in a strong position here tonight, and even with the round ball handicap (draw no bet) this is still a good price and I recommend this as my pick in this cup-tie.

The Pick :

AFC Wimbledon 0-1 York City
