Burnley
It is typical of Burnley to pick up big results under Sean Dyche, but the manager would love to see his team head into the busy December period having produced another win. Those have been much tougher to come by for Burnley and even playing at Turf Moor has not been enough to change momentum for the club who are currently occupying one of the three relegation places in the Premier League.
They fought back for a point against Crystal Palace last weekend, but Burnley are still in 18th place in the Premier League table and they are now 2 points behind Leeds United outside of the relegation zone. The side have a 1-3-2 record at Turf Moor in the League where Burnley have scored and conceded 8 goals.
Burnley have been Knocked Out of the League Cup, but they have only been beaten in 1 of their last 7 Premier League games and they are unbeaten in 4 heading into this fixture. They have now scored 6 goals in their last 2 Premier League games at Turf Moor and that has resulted in Burnley picking up 4 points from a possible 6.
James Tarkowski and Ashley Westwood are missing this weekend as they serve one game suspensions. Ashley Barnes is missing with an injury, but the manager is confident the rest of the squad will be ready to be selected despite a couple of players dealing with knocks.
Tottenham Hotspur
It isn't often that a manager arrives mid-season at a club and finds things are going pretty well- ultimately those jobs come up because there is work to do to fix something that is not going right. Antonio Conte knows there is a tough task in front of him as Tottenham Hotspur manager and some of the squad have shown they are perhaps not going to be good enough to trust after the embarrassing 2-1 loss at Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
That puts Tottenham Hotspur's place in the Knock Out Rounds under threat, but they turn their attention back to the Premier League for three games this week. The side are 7th in the Premier League table and 4 points off the Champions League places, but Spurs have a relatively poor 2-1-3 record away from home.
Tottenham Hotspur had been unbeaten in 3 games in all competitions under Antonio Conte, but that came to an end in the defeat to Mura. They have only won 1 of their last 5 away games in all competitions and Tottenham Hotspur have been beaten 3 times in that run.
Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Dane Scarlett are expected to miss this fixture. A host of players were rested after the win over Leeds United and they should be restored for this Premier League fixture.
Head to Head
These teams met in the League Cup last month and it ended with a 0-1 win for Tottenham Hotspur.
Last season Spurs did the Premier League double over Burnley.
They are now unbeaten in 3 visits to Turf Moor and Tottenham Hotspur have won back to back games here by the same 0-1 scoreline.
Prediction
Antonio Conte was pretty annoyed with the Tottenham Hotspur performance in the defeat to Mura and I think he will now know that there are a number of players in the squad that can't really be trusted to perform. The eleven that started against Leeds United in the Premier League will likely be given a chance to help the club bounce back from an embarrassing defeat, but I think Tottenham Hotspur have a chance to do that.
They are visiting Turf Moor on Sunday and Tottenham Hotspur look to be about to embark on a week in which they will be favourites to win all three Premier League games.
It doesn't really matter what people think they can do off the field, but I do think Tottenham Hotspur will be encouraged by back to back 0-1 wins at Turf Moor. That includes a win here in the League Cup last month and Tottenham Hotspur are facing a Burnley team that have been giving up some big chances.
James Tarkowski and Ashley Westwood will be big misses for Burnley this weekend and I think that will give Tottenham Hotspur an opportunity to expose defensive vulnerabilities displayed by the home team.
Burnley have shown battling qualities to put a 4 game unbeaten run together in the Premier League, but they have rode their luck at times. A deserved win over Brentford can't be ignored, but Burnley should have lost games to Chelsea and Crystal Palace and I do think they will have problems containing a Tottenham Hotspur team that will be restored to full power on Sunday after the awful performance of the back up players on Thursday.
The goals that Burnley have scored in their last couple of Premier League games at Turf Moor are encouraging, but I think they are producing at an unsustainable rate. They may score against this Tottenham Hotspur team, but I think the visitors will have too much for them and they should be able to edge to the three points as they bounce back for Antonio Conte.
It won't be easy, but I think Tottenham Hotspur's first eleven are of the quality to just about do enough to win.
