Burnley
Games are running down and that means every League fixture means so much to clubs like Burnley who are fighting to avoid the drop. However, fans and management will have been realistic about the chances of upsetting Manchester City on Saturday and it is fixtures like this that Sean Dyche would have targeted for a big result.
The experienced manager is not panicking at all about seeing Burnley in 19th place in the Premier League table and 4 points from safety, despite the side having just eight League games left to play. They can make a big dent in that gap by beating the team just outside the relegation zone, although Burnley have a 2-6-6 record at Turf Moor meaning they have the joint-fewest home wins in the top flight.
Burnley have not won any of their last 5 League games, but the real worry is that they have lost 4 in a row and have conceded at least two goals in each defeat, while failing to score once. The side have only earned 3 points from their last 5 games at Turf Moor, but Burnley have faced all of the current top four and Leicester City during that run.
Nathan Collins, Ben Mee and Erik Pieters are expected to miss this fixture. Matej Vydra could be back as a substitute.
Everton
The fans were demanding Frank Lampard take over as manager of Everton when Rafael Benitez was Sacked, but it is a decision that is being questioned more and more after yet another defeat. There is a real feeling of despair around Goodison Park after the 2-1 loss at West Ham United and Everton have a very difficult fixture list to close out this season.
They remain 17th in the Premier League table and 3 points clear of the relegation zone, but that gap could feel very, very precarious if Everton were lose on Wednesday night. The 1-3-10 record away from home is the worst in the Premier League and Everton have scored 11 goals and conceded 30 in those fixtures.
Everton scored deep into injury time to beat Newcastle United in the Premier League last month, but they have since lost at Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Quarter Final and West Ham United in the League. The side have now earned a single point from their last 10 away Premier League games and Everton have lost 5 in a row away from home in the top flight.
Michael Keane was sent off on Sunday and will miss this game along with Allan who completes his own suspension. Donny van de Beek, Seamus Coleman and Andre Gomes are all doubts, while Yerry Mina and Fabian Delph have been ruled out.
Head to Head
Everton came from behind to beat Burnley 3-1 at home earlier this season.
Burnley have only lost 1 of their last 5 at Turf Moor against Everton and they have won 3 of those games.
The fixture here last season ended 1-1.
Prediction
Every remaining game in the Premier League will be important to the clubs at the top and bottom of the table, but you cannot doubt the size of this one on Wednesday evening.
Burnley and Everton are both in the bottom four of the Premier League table and 4 points separates them. The term 'relegation six pointer' is reserved for fixtures like this one and I would really worry about the losing team, whichever of them lose.
Neither team is playing with much confidence- Burnley have lost 4 of their last 5 at home, while Everton have lost 5 straight away and I do think there will be so much tension in both dressing rooms.
At least Burnley can point to the fact that they have played each of the current top four in their last 5 League games at Turf Moor and they have at least offered some resilience in defeats to Liverpool and Chelsea. They did capitulate in the latter of those fixtures, but Burnley will feel they showed enough to believe they can beat a vulnerable Everton team.
While Burnley have played some top teams in their recent home games, Everton have lost 5 away games in a row and that includes defeats at Norwich City and Newcastle United. There has been some encouragement in the performances from Everton under Frank Lampard, but the team look very short of confidence and the first goal is going to be absolutely massive in this one.
Burnley have played well at home against Everton and I do think they will feel they can contain the away threat and that gives them a chance. Everton have massive problems in defensive areas and the Lampard style has left them far too open, while Burnley are going to offer a threat from set pieces.
It is those defensive issues with Michael Keane and Allan suspended and Seamus Coleman a doubt that has me leaning towards Burnley picking up a massive result. Everton do have quality in the final third and Burnley are without some key players too, but home advantage may be just enough for Sean Dyche and his men to pick up a priceless three points.
