Everton

David Moyes was appointed to be a steady hand and to ensure that Everton would be moving into their new Stadium as a Premier League club. Results under their former manager have been very impressive and Everton have put a considerable gap between themselves and the bottom three, which will have eased any real concern around the club.

The win at Selhurst Park last weekend has pushed Everton up into 14th place in the Premier League table and they are 13 points clear of the relegation zone with thirteen League games left to play. The Toffees have a 4-5-4 record at Goodison Park in their final season at this famous old Stadium.

Everton were dumped out of the FA Cup in a 0-2 home defeat to Bournemouth, but they are unbeaten in 5 Premier League games and have picked up 13 points from a possible 15 in that run. They had beaten Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City in consecutive home League games and Everton then scored deep into injury time to earn a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the last Merseyside derby to be played at Goodison Park.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is available having served a suspension last weekend, but Seamus Coleman may have to wait a few more days before returning to action. A number of other players remain sidelined and will perhaps miss the rest of this month's action.

Manchester United

There are always going to be headlines made by Manchester United, but they will be desperate for the narrative to change after recent form and off-field issues around the club. Ruben Amorim continues to outline how hard his job is to turn things around at Old Trafford, but the manager is also well aware that results matter and he is working for a co-owner who will not hesitate to change his mind as Sir Jim Ratcliffe did when Sacking Dan Ashworth.

No one could have really predicted the difficulties that Manchester United have had this season and it is quite embarrassing to see the team slipping into 15th place in the Premier League table after the defeat at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Fortunately there are still 12 points between Manchester United and 18th placed Ipswich Town, while the result last Sunday has seen the away record drop to 3-4-5 in the top flight.

Manchester United have picked up some victories in the Europa League and FA Cup, but the Premier League form has been poor and the last defeat makes it 6 losses in 9 League fixtures played. They have only won 1 of their last 4 away Premier League games, but Manchester United had only been beaten in 1 of 4 on their travels in the top flight prior to the 1-0 defeat at Spurs.

Lisandro Martinez has already been ruled out for months, but it was a tough week for Manchester United in the build up to the last Premier League fixture. Amad Diallo has been a key figure under Ruben Amorim, but is set to miss the remainder of the season, while Kobbie Mainoo may not return before the March international break concludes. The hope is that Leny Yoro, Christian Eriksen, Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer can be available for selection.

Head to Head

Marcus Rashford scored twice when Manchester United beat Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim in early December, but so much has changed since then.

Everton beat Manchester United 1-0 at Goodison Park in April 2022, but have lost all 6 games played in all competitions since then.

Manchester United have won 4 of their last 5 away games at Goodison Park with the defeat in April 2022 being the exception.

Prediction

There is so much negativity around Manchester United at the moment and the defeat at Tottenham Hotspur has only added to that, especially considering the poor form the hosts had been in prior to that victory.

In saying all that, Ruben Amorim has to feel his team were slightly unfortunate last Sunday considering some of the chances created.

Playing at Old Trafford has been really challenging for the squad that is feeling the pressure, but Manchester United have found some positive away results under the manager and the squad could be bolstered with players likely overcoming knocks and illnesses that kept them out in North London last weekend.

Ruben Amorim is still searching for some answers in the final third, although he can point to some poor finishing last time out. Big opportunities were created and another week of working on the training ground has to be benefit a group of players that are underachieving.

Talk of the system is just an excuse for a squad that hadn't exactly been ripping up trees under Erik ten Hag before Ruben Amorim took over as manager. There are poor decisions being made and, ultimately, there is a lack of quality for Amorim to work with and that is going to need patience and stronger recruiting to turn things around.

The bench should have a slightly stronger look this weekend compared with last Sunday, although the pressure is on the forward players now the options have been stretched further. Losing both Antony and Marcus Rashford in the January window without signing a replacement hurts even more with Amad now set to miss the remainder of the season.

Manchester United will create chances here and they have been a little more solid defensively away from home with the expectations different within games compared with playing at Old Trafford.

That can offer the squad some encouragement, even as they prepare to face an Everton team that have been flying under David Moyes. 4 wins in 5 League games have pushed Everton above Manchester United and with a healthy gap to the bottom three and Moyes will be keen to keep the run going before rebuilding the squad in the summer.

Everton have been playing well at home having beaten Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City before earning the draw with Liverpool, but they are still conceding chances.

Beto is in solid goal-scoring form, which really helps an Everton team missing some key attacking options and Goodison Park will be rocking as the games run down at this famous Stadium.

However, Everton have had some tough games recently and perhaps overachieved- the situation feels different here with Everton down as the favourites and that can weigh on the squad, especially with fans coming into the ground with that same expectation.

Everton have not really enjoyed playing Manchester United in recent times and this feels like the kind of game where the noise around the fixture sees a surprise result produced.

Most will be expecting Manchester United to lose against a rampant Everton team, but the hosts have perhaps been on the right side of a bit of fortune of late. That has been missing with United and it won't take much to swing things back towards the visiting team.

Some players are back for Manchester United in this one and that could give Ruben Amorim a few more options when it comes to substitutions he can make if things are not going quite right. The attackers have to step up for Manchester United, but backing them with a start on the Asian Handicap looks a decent proposition, even through this poor period in the club's recent history.
