Greuther Furth lingered in the bottom half of 2.Bundesliga last season, ultimately finishing 13th. I don’t see them much improved now, although they do look more motivated and perhaps ready to move up a few places.
Greuther Furth opened with a 3-2 win over the newly promoted Dynamo Dresden, before losing 3-2 against Eintracht Braunschweig in the second round. It seems like they are continuing the same story from last season, when they scored a lot but also conceded against everyone, and often more than once.
Greuther Furth have remained unbeaten in five of their last six home games against Holstein Kiel, winning three and drawing twice. Their most recent duel ended in their 2-1 home win, and I expect a similar scenario again.
Holstein Kiel
Holstein Kiel suffered two back-to-back defeats against SC Paderborn 2-1 and Arminia Bielefeld 0-2, showing poor displays in both games. They are still working on their form, but matches will come rapidly in the following weeks, so they have little time to regroup.
They are obviously still feeling the after-effects of their Bundesliga relegation, and I doubt they will get anywhere near promotion spots this season. Summer saw them firm up in pre-season, but the regular season is something different.
The Betting Verdict
This can be a lively clash. Greuther Furth likes to attack, and they looked dangerous in both of their high-scoring games so far.
I believe we will see at least three goals here, and they may land early, especially if Greuther Furth scores first and Holstein Kiel responds.
