Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich enters the 2025/26 Bundesliga season as the top favourites for the Bundesliga title, and with a renewed sense of purpose under coach Vincent Kompany. They won the title back from Bayer Leverkusen last season and will surely look to not let it go away anytime soon.
The Bavarians strengthened their squad with their key signing from Liverpool, Luis Diaz, and Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen, while also contending with injuries to top players like Jamal Musiala. They sold Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane this summer, but still, Bayern Munich looks exceptionally strong with the team they have for this season.
Despite these challenges, Bayern Munich secured a 1-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, with goals from Harry Kane and Luis Díaz. It was an excellent warm-up for the season, and we should expect a dominant run from Bayern Munich starting early this season.
The squad boasts enough depth, with players like Michael Olise adding flair to the attack. However, Bayern Munich’s defensive line will have to seriously maintain focus to prevent RB Leipzig's quick counters in this game.
RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig finished 7th in the Bundesliga last season, and to me, they look weaker than last season. They lost three important players this summer - Yussuf Poulsen, Andre Silva, and most notably, Benjamin Sesko, who joined Manchester United. They now look nothing more than an average top-half team, likely set for somewhere near mid-table.
RB Leipzig warmed up for the Bundesliga season with a routine 2-4 win against lowly SV Sandhausen in the DFB Pokal a few days ago, which may give them some confidence for this duel.
However, RB Leipzig looked vulnerable defensively in their cup game, and Bayern Munich punishes even the slightest mistake.
The Betting Verdict
Bayern Munich’s pressing game could lead to RB Leipzig's defensive errors, but RB Leipzig's counters could also find success against Bayern Munich's high line.
Bayern Munich has dominated the previous Bundesliga fixtures, remaining unbeaten in 16 of 18 duels against RB Leipzig (9 wins, 7 draws, and only two defeats).
Their most recent game at the end of last season ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw, but I doubt Bayern Munich will slip here. Take the home win combined with goals.
