Bournemouth
Despite being the victim of an alleged racist comment from a fan, Antoine Semenyo showed all of his qualities on the field in scoring twice at Anfield. He was linked with a move away from Bournemouth this summer and so Andoni Iraola will be very pleased that Semenyo has not joined the exodus of key players that have perhaps lowered some of the expectations around the club ahead of this campaign.
There will be a number of fans who perhaps feel much better after watching the performance at Anfield where Bournemouth were perhaps unfortunate to lose 4-2. Now they are back at the Vitality Stadium for the home Premier League opener and the manager and the squad will be looking to earn the first points of the campaign at a ground where the team had an 8-4-7 record last season.
Bournemouth had been pushing for European Football last season and that may be a long shot for the squad, at least in its current position, but the performance at the home of the Champions will offer plenty of encouragement. The Cherries have won half of their last 4 home Premier League games ahead of this weekend.
Dango Outtara has become the latest player to be sold by Bournemouth and so Andoni Iraola will be hoping for a few new faces to be added to the squad. Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert are both doubts this weekend.
Wolves
Two quick first half goals put Wolves on the back foot and they were not really able to recover in an emotional atmosphere at Molineux last weekend. It was the first time the fans could pay a full tribute to former player Diogo Jota and it was a tough day for everyone associated with the club.
They were pretty well beaten when all was said and done against Manchester City and Vitor Pereira will be hoping that Wolves can do some positive business in the remainder of the transfer window. In recent years they have flirted with relegation and the performances of Sunderland and Leeds United on the opening weekend will have some Wolves fans worrying about the season ahead. The side had a 6-3-10 away record in the top flight last time around, but Wolves conceded 37 goals in those matches.
Wolves have failed to win any of their last 5 Premier League games going back to last season and they have lost 4 of those matches. They had won 4 straight away League games before finished the season with losses at Manchester City and Crystal Palace.
Leon Chiwone is absent, but the remainder of the squad will be ready to travel to the South Coast. Hee-Chan Hwang has been linked with a move away, but is available at the time of writing.
Head to Head
Bournemouth and Wolves both beat the other away from home in the Premier League last season.
They also met at the Vitality Stadium in the FA Cup- Bournemouth won that tie on Penalties, but that also means they have not won any of their last 6 home games against Wolves in normal time.
Wolves have been victorious in half of those 6 games.
Prediction
Both of these teams conceded four goals on the opening weekend, but there is little doubt that Bournemouth fans will be feeling much more encouraged by what they saw from their team compared with Wolves.
The supporters will be aware that the opening fixtures against title contenders were far from easy, but Bournemouth gave Liverpool a massive fright at Anfield and Andoni Iraola has to be very pleased with what he saw.
On the other hand, Manchester City were comfortable winners at Molineux and the loss of Matheus Cunha feels like a big blow for Wolves.
Vitor Pereira is likely to use new signings Jhon Arias and Fer Lopez from the start sooner than later and he will be looking for them to replace the qualities of Cunha. It is a learning process moving to a new League and so there will be patience involved, but Wolves can certainly expect to show more bite against a Bournemouth team that have a number of new faces to bed in at the back.
His team will have to defend with more authority against a Bournemouth team that have some consistency and rhythm in those areas.
Players will be aware of what others want to do in this part of the pitch and Bournemouth showed their attacking threat remains in their performance at Anfield.
A poor home record against Wolves does raise eyebrows and so it does make it tough to back Bournemouth to win this fixture at odds on, even if they were the more impressive last weekend. This is a different kind of test for the home team and Vitor Pereira's visitors will also have bigger expectations from a fixture like this than they perhaps did against Manchester City.
Recent results between the teams have been really mixed and it is a tough fixture to call- the edge feels like it is with Bournemouth, but the expectation is that Wolves can certainly play their part here and so backing at least three goals to be shared out looks the best approach.
The defensive numbers of both teams were pretty poor last weekend and so the attacking players could come out on top in what is expected to be easier conditions to perform in this weekend compared with last.
