Burnley
Two seasons ago, Burnley returned to the Premier League and did not handle the very difficult early fixtures that were handed to them. Instead the team were struggling right from the outset and so credit has to be given to Scott Parker and this squad for showing a lot more competitive spirit, despite having faced some of the very best teams in the Division.
They do have to face Arsenal between the October and November international breaks, but the other three fixtures are where Burnley need to start adding to the 4 points secured so far this season. The side have a 1-1-1 record at Turf Moor and Burnley have scored 3 goals and conceded 2 in those matches.
Burnley have not won any of their last 6 games in all competitions and they have been beaten in 5 of those, although that does not paint a full picture. They did win the opening 2 fixtures played at Turf Moor in all competitions, but Burnley have not lost to Liverpool, when conceding deep into injury time, and draw with Sunderland before a League Cup Third Round defeat.
Connor Roberts is expected to be back with the squad, while Burnley are hoping that influential Jaidon Anthony has used the two week international break to overcome a knock.
Leeds United
Daniel Farke urged the board to bring in some forward players to help Leeds United in the return to the Premier League, but that failed to materialise. Earlier in the season it felt like it was a mistake by those in upper management, but Farke has got on with his job and Leeds United have been producing real threat in the final third.
They were very unfortunate to lose to Tottenham Hotspur two weeks ago, but Leeds United will be very happy being 15th in the Premier League table and with 8 points already on the board. The side will face a rival from the Championship with a 1-0-2 away record in the top flight.
Leeds United had won 1-3 at Molineux and then conceded very late on in a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, but could not quite do enough to earn the deserved result against Tottenham Hotspur in a 1-2 home defeat. This is the first away game played by Leeds United since that fabulous win at Wolves, a result that ended a 3 away game winless start to the campaign.
Lucas Perri and Wilfried Gnonto are both hoping to return after this international break. Dan James has to wait a little longer though.
Head to Head
Burnley took four points from Leeds United in the Championship last season, but the game here ended goalless.
Burnley have not won any of their last 4 home games against Leeds United, although 3 have ended in draws.
Prediction
There has been a lot to like from what Leeds United have been able to produce in the first seven Premier League games, but being favourites to win at Turf Moor does not sit right.
Of course they won at Wolves last month so there is every reason for Leeds United fans to be optimistic as they travel the sixty miles from Yorkshire into Lancashire.
Daniel Farke's team impressed in games against Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur, while giving as good as they got in a narrow loss at Fulham.
This makes them dangerous, but Burnley might be underestimated.
They have made the 'slowest' start of the three newly-promoted clubs, but it would be difficult to argue that Burnley have not had the toughest of the opening fixtures. Scott Parker's team were beaten comfortably at Manchester City, as Leeds United were at Arsenal, but they have been really competitive outside of that loss.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool needed injury time Penalties to beat Burnley, while all 4 points earned by Parker's men have come at Turf Moor.
Last season they got the better of Leeds United and while the away team look improved and Burnley have lost some key players, there is enough being shown by the Championship Runners-Up to believe they can at least earn a positive result.
Burnley have already beaten Sunderland at Turf Moor and there has been enough shown by them at Turf Moor to believe they can avoid a defeat at the very least this weekend.
