Lyon managed to bounce back from two defeats on the trot in Ligue 1 in midweek when Paulo Fonseca’s side registered a welcome 2-0 home win against Swiss club Basel in the UEFA Europa League and the hosts hold home advantage once again on Sunday evening at their Groupama Stadium when they take on Strasbourg.
Prior to back-to-back losses in the French top flight to Toulouse and Nice respectively, Lyon had posted a four-match winning streak across all competitions which consisted of important wins in the Europa League over the likes of Utrecht and RB Salzburg, along with Ligue 1 victories against Angers and Lille.
Results on home soil in Ligue 1 have also been encouraging as Lyon have picked up three wins in their opening four games at their Groupama Stadium, giving the hosts a decent chance of collecting another result here on Sunday night.
Strasbourg were also in European action during the week as Liam Rosenior’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Polish club Jagiellonia in the UEFA Conference League but nevertheless that result extended the visitors’ unbeaten run in all competitions to four games overall.
Within this recent unbeaten run, Strasbourg have registered wins against Slovan in the UEFA Conference League along with a resounding 5-0 demolition of Angers in the domestic top flight which will give the visitors belief that they can get something out of Sunday’s encounter.
However, only one point separates Strasbourg from their upcoming opponents on Sunday and they have managed only one win in their last four meetings against Lyon, losing twice and drawing once.
