Spain
They have not officially earned their spot at the 2026 World Cup Finals, but that will change at the end of Tuesday evening as long as Spain are not beaten by eight or more goals in this final Qualifier. The team have yet to concede any goal in the Qualifying matches played so suffice to say that most Spanish fans are already looking forward to the World Cup draw in early December and then getting ready for a party in the summer.
It could be a big party with Spain expected to kick off as favourites to win the World Cup next summer having been the top European team of the last couple of years. That time has seen them win both the Nations League and European Championship and the way they have handled this potentially awkward Group can only impress, especially as Spain have shown off the squad depth they possess.
Spain have not lost a match since March 2024, at least in normal time, while they have won 6 of the last 7 fixtures in all competitions. They were beaten in the Nations League Final on Penalties, and Spain had been guilty of conceding plenty of goals in that competition, but they have kept clean sheets in all 5 World Cup Qualifiers played.
Turkiye
The draw for this four team World Cup Qualifying Group always felt like being one where Turkiye had to target 2nd place in the section. They have comfortably secured that spot and Turkiye will be confident of finding a way through the Play Off run next March to return to the World Cup Finals for the first time since 2022 and third time ever.
Fans of a certain age will think back to 2022 with huge fondness as Turkiye reached the World Cup Semi Final and ultimately finished third in the tournament. Last summer they reached the Euro 2024 Quarter Final and Turkiye have won 4 of the 5 World Cup Qualifiers in this section, while a win by eight or more goals would see them overcome monster odds to top the section.
Turkiye have won 7 of the last 9 games played in all competitions, although one of the setbacks in that time was a humbling 0-6 home loss to Spain in this Group. The side have won 4 of the last 5 away competitive fixtures played.
Ismail Yuksek is suspended, while Kaan Ayhan has picked up a knock and is considered very doubtful.
Head to Head
Spain have won 5 consecutive competitive fixtures against Turkiye.
These teams met in Konya in this World Cup Qualifying Group and Spain were leading 0-6 with just 62 minutes on the clock.
Prediction
This is effectively a dead rubber- it would be something stunning if Spain were to lose by eight or more goals at home, which is the only way they fail to top this World Cup Qualifying Group.
That could mean Turkiye playing with a little less intensity.
Players will certainly not want to be on the wrong end of another 6-0 defeat having suffered that at home, but the focus has to be on the Play Off next year. That also means players looking to avoid unnecessary bookings that could lead to suspensions and so Turkiye may not be able to match a Spain team that have nothing to lose.
Spain have showed how strong the depth is within this squad as they crushed Georgia without several key players.
They can keep that going by finishing with a perfect record in the Group and Spain look likely to win all six Qualifiers by at least two goals by securing another comfortable victory on Tuesday.
