Southampton finally halted a worrying six-match winless run in the Championship last weekend in the FA Cup when The Saints registered a welcome 3-2 win away from home at Doncaster Rovers but league form remains a concern for Saints manager Tonda Eckert.
Indeed, the hosts’ previous impressive form and momentum has suddenly dried up in recent weeks as the south coast club have been involved in three draws along with three defeats but it’s worth noting that all three losses were incurred on their travels.
Form on home soil though at St Mary’s Stadium has been more consistent as the hosts possess a record of 5-5-2 17/11 so far this season which includes an unbeaten run of six matches ahead of Saturday’s clash with Hull City.
Hull City occupy 7th place in the Championship table and they too safely negotiated their way through the 3rd round of last weekend’s FA Cup, albeit on penalties, as they accounted for fellow Championship club, Blackburn Rovers.
The wider picture shows Hull City have suffered just one loss in their last seven matches in all competitions which came in the form of a 1-0 defeat at home to Stoke City but this sequence of results also include picking up four wins in the process as well.
Two of these four recent wins were achieved on the road with victories gained at Millwall and Middlesbrough but results overall away from home have been fairly inconsistent for Sergej Jakirović’s side, as they hold an away record of 5-3-4 21/19 to date this term.
The Betting Verdict
Given Hull City’s inconsistent results on the road, Southampton look fairly decent value for the win here.
The Pick :
Southampton 2-1 Hull City
