A Sports Betting Pick by Auls

Brighton v Everton
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 31st January 2025 - Kick Off 3pm

Brighton

They took the lead and had a second goal ruled out for a slight offside call, which would have made the late goal conceded to lose 2-1 at Craven Cottage hurt all the more. Fabian Hurzeler will be wanting a big reaction from his streaky Brighton team as they look to move out of a relatively poor run of form.

The Seagulls are now 12th in the Premier League table and there is beginning to be a little bit of separation between themselves and those teams chasing European Football. Missing out on a return to a UEFA competition may not go down too well with the Brighton board and so it feels important for the team to improve the 5-5-1 record at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton had been unbeaten in 5 games in all competitions before the late defeat at Fulham last Saturday, but the other side of the coin is that the side have won 2 of the last 11 games. A late equaliser salvaged a point in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth most recently at the Amex Stadium, but that result means a single win in 5 home games.

Brajan Gruda, Solly March and Mats Wieffer are hoping to be available for selection ahead of this fixture.

Everton

He was a big money signing at the start of this season and 23 year old Thierno Barry is looking a lot more confident leading the line for Everton after a poor start to the campaign. Coming into a new League is never easy, especially for an inexperienced player, but Barry is looking happier and he will be key to any European push that Everton can put together.

It was the French striker who stepped up to salvage Everton a point on Monday Night Football and the team are 10th in the Premier League table and still in touch with those above them in the European places. David Moyes knows his team need more consistency, but they are only focusing on the League for the remainder of this campaign. The Toffees have a 5-2-4 away record in the top flight as they prepare to make the journey to the South Coast.

Everton have won 1 of the last 5 games in all competitions, but that was earned in the last away Premier League fixture at Aston Villa two weeks ago. That surprising win at Villa Park is part of a strong run of away form and Everton have won 4 of the last 6 on their travels in the Premier League.

Michael Keane is back from a suspension, but Jack Grealish has been ruled out untul at least after the March international break.

Head to Head

Hill Dickinson Stadium hosted Everton's 2-0 win over Brighton back in August in what was the first competitive fixture at the new home of The Toffees.

Brighton have not won any of the last 5 at home against Everton.

In fact, it is Everton who have won 3 of the last 4 at the Amex Stadium with the exception being a 1-1 draw a couple of seasons ago secured with an injury time equaliser for the home team.

Prediction

It turned out that simply backing the biggest price in the last Everton game turned up as a winning selection as the team continues to produce inconsistent performances and results.

They were poor on Monday night up to half time and David Moyes will know his team were fortunate to only be trailing 0-1 at that time against Leeds United.

However, the positive on the night has to be the returns of the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, while Michael Keane is available after suspension. With players also back from the African Cup of Nations, Everton may have enough quality in the final third to cover up what is going to be a potentially long absence of Jack Grealish.

Even then, it is hard to know what to expect from this Everton team.

Some of the defending at home has been really disappointing, but this is a fixture being played at a Stadium they have enjoyed visiting.

In 3 of the last 4 games played at the Amex Stadium, Everton have come away with the three points and they are facing a Brighton team that have also been struggling to find the consistency needed to continue challenging for European spots.

A late goal earned Brighton a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth here, but they suffered a late body blow in the 2-1 loss at Fulham last weekend. It has extended a poor run of form and Brighton are just having a difficult time at both ends of the pitch.

There is some quality and pace in the squad, but putting it all together is the challenge and Brighton have not always convinced at the back. Fabian Hurzeler will be happy that his team have only conceded two goals in the last 4 home Premier League games, but Brighton have played West Ham United, Sunderland, Burnley and Bournemouth in that run and have still allowed some Big Chances to be created.

With that in mind, Brighton look short at odds on to win this fixture and have only managed a single win in 5 home Premier League games.

It is very difficult to ignore the Everton record here and it may be another game where backing the biggest price is a worthy play- in this League fixture that means backing Everton to win and they are certainly capable with 4 League wins from the last 6 away fixtures played.

This looks worthy of a small play, while others who are want a shorter priced pick may simply want to back Everton to avoid a defeat.

The Pick :

Brighton 0-1 Everton
