Fulham
Marco Silva was far from happy with some of the officiating at Old Trafford last Sunday, but there will also have been some frustration with the late defending that allowed Manchester United to score the winning goal in injury time. The overall performance wasn't a bad one, but Fulham have continued to struggle for some consistency and that will need to be improved if they are going to return to European Football.
The manager has yet to sign an extension to a contract that is running out this summer, but the focus has remained on keeping Fulham thriving and the players continue to play very hard for Silva. Despite the defeat last weekend, Fulham are 9th in the Premier League table and 5 points behind 6th placed Liverpool. The side have a 7-2-3 record at Craven Cottage in the top flight where Fulham have scored 21 goals and conceded 14.
Fulham had been unbeaten in 6 games in all competitions, but have since suffered 2 losses in 3 Premier League games. Both defeats have been away from home at Leeds United and Manchester United courtesy of injury time goals, but Fulham are unbeaten in 5 at Craven Cottage and have won 4 of those fixtures.
Oscar Bobb has been signed from Manchester City and will be hoping to go straight into the squad. Both Sasa Lukic and Rodrigo Muniz are doubts.
Everton
David Moyes was booked for his celebrations after Everton scored a late equaliser at Brighton last Saturday and it was no surprise that the veteran was highly critical of the officials in the post-match press conference. He won't be worrying for too long and instead will be focusing on helping Everton get the better of a potential rival for European Football.
The draw at Brighton means Everton are 10th in the Premier League table going into this weekend, but they have the same number of points as Fulham which means they are also 5 points behind the top six places. They now have a 5-3-4 away record and Everton have scored and conceded 11 goals in those matches.
Everton have won 1 of the last 6 games in all competitions, but 4 of those matches have ended in draws including in the FA Cup Third Round tie that was eventually lost on Penalties. The late goal scored last Saturday means Everton have been beaten in 1 of the last 8 away Premier League games and they had won consecutive fixtures on their travels before the draw at the Amex Stadium.
Vitalii Mykolenko is a doubt and Jack Grealish is set to miss the remainder of the season. Tyrique George joined Everton on deadline day in the January transfer window and should be involved this weekend.
Head to Head
Everton beat Fulham 2-0 at Hill Dickinson Stadium earlier this season.
Fulham have not won any of the last 4 at Craven Cottage against this opponent and they have lost half of those matches.
Prediction
There is very little separating Fulham and Everton in the Premier League table- they have the same number of points and the same goal difference, but Fulham earn a higher position thanks to scoring more goals overall.
When they met at Hill Dickinson Stadium earlier this season, Everton were clearly the stronger team, but they will also have to expect a much tougher Fulham when travelling to Craven Cottage.
Home form has been key to Fulham's season so far and they have been on a pretty positive run overall, even after losing in injury time for a second time in three weeks.
Both of those defeats have been away from home, but Fulham have remained very productive at Craven Cottage and continue to pile up the wins here. They attack with real confidence and Marco Silva's team will expect to produce the better chances in this match.
However, they are facing an Everton team who showed their stubbornness when earning a point at Brighton last week and who have only lost 1 of the last 8 away games in the Premier League. During that time they have won 4 times, although Everton's one defeat came in West London at Fulham's rivals Chelsea in December.
Recent visits to this part of West London have been more productive as far as Everton are concerned with a 4 game unbeaten run to protect at this ground. Twice they have earned the maximum points, but beating Fulham at Craven Cottage is not going to be easy and there may be as little between the teams on Saturday as there have been in the seasonal records.
Half of the last 8 matches played between Fulham and Everton have ended in draws and there is every reason to believe that could be the case again this weekend.
The first goal will be very important, but neither team is likely to be holding a comfortable lead in the final minutes of the fixture. That could see the pressure build and ultimately it looks a game where stalemate could be the ultimate outcome with both Fulham and Everton remaining on track to challenge for European Football in the weeks and months ahead.
