Excelsior extended their unbeaten run to five matches in the Dutch Eredivisie last time out with a solid 2-0 win away from home at NAC Breda which followed four draws on the trot for Ruben den Uil’s side, helping to lift the hosts into 12th place in the domestic top flight table.
Excelsior had previously picked up useful points in stalemates with Telstar, AZ (away), Twente and Ajax respectively and although the hosts have found league wins hard to come by in recent times, Ruben den Uil’s side have been dealt just the single loss in their last seven matches.
The hosts’ one loss within this period came in the form of a heavy 5-1 thrashing away from home at the runaway league leaders, PSV, but previous results also include a 2-1 home win against PEC Zwolle.
AZ occupy 7th place in the Eredivisie table and therefore one of the play-off qualification spots ahead of this weekend’s action but although the visitors sit in the top half of the Dutch top flight table, recent results have been something of a mixed bag for Leeroy Echteld’s side.
Two wins, two draws and two defeats have made up AZ’s last six results in all competitions and with an overall inconsistent looking record of 9-6-7 37/36 under their belts so far this season, the visitors might have their work cut out to get a result at Stadion Woudestein on Saturday evening.
Indeed, an away record of 5-1-5 15/16 further underlines how untrustworthy AZ have been on their travels so far this season.
