Perhaps I haven’t given Hamburger SV enough credit, and they deserve it. They have been one of the most impressive teams over the past couple of months, going unbeaten in six straight matches (four draws, two wins), the longest such run in the Bundesliga alongside Borussia Dortmund.
Hamburger SV now has a solid cushion over the danger zone, and it is a matter of time before they secure their Bundesliga status. Their balance and team shape have improved, giving them the belief they can compete with higher-placed opposition.
Another impressive thing is that Hamburger SV is unbeaten in seven consecutive home matches, a fantastic run in which they have avoided defeat against all the best sides – Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and VfB Stuttgart.
RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig’s form is more mixed heading into this fixture. They have been inconsistent of late, with only one win in five, with both of their last two Bundesliga games against Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund ending in 2-2 draws.
While they typically control possession and create chances, they haven’t always converted that control into winning performances. They have also conceded at a higher rate than desired, particularly away from home.
Despite this, RB Leipzig remains a strong side on paper, with attacking quality that can hurt any defence on their day. However, their defending is not so good, with RB Leipzig managing just one clean sheet in their last seven games.
On top of all that, RB Leipzig have failed to win any of their last 4 Bundesliga games after taking the lead.
