Everton

Once again Everton overcame the odds as they continue to perform well when not expected to, but struggling to produce when fixtures look more appealing. David Moyes will continue to remind his players that they need to take every game seriously if Everton are going to finish in a position that brings European Football to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

They needed to take the lead three times before finally edging past Newcastle United on Saturday and that has pushed Everton into 8th place in the Premier League table. The Toffees are back at home this week and Everton have a 4-4-6 record here in the top flight where they have scored 16 goals and conceded 19.

Everton have been a mixed bag of late and had suffered back to back Premier League defeats before the 2-3 victory at St James' Park. The side have been able to pick up some strong away results, but Everton have not won any of the last 7 home games in all competitions and been beaten in 4 of the last 6 Premier League games at their new home.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jack Grealish are missing for the home team.

Burnley

Turf Moor exploded with excitement as the home team scored a fourth goal in a row to take the 4-3 lead over Brentford- unfortunately that goal did not stand thanks to a VAR intervention. Scott Parker and the crowd were then devastated by conceding a fourth and later having yet another goal disallowed through the VAR and Burnley's defeat feels like one that will be hard to overcome.

Fighting back from 0-3 behind to draw level with Brentford will have given the team confidence, but the end of that fixture will have hurt and Burnley are still 19th in the Premier League table and 8 points from safety. The side make the relatively short journey to Merseyside with a 2-3-9 away record in the Premier League where Burnley have conceded 33 goals.

Burnley have won 1 of the last 8 games in all competitions and they have suffered defeat in 4 of the last 6 ahead of this one. The squad have to be given some credit for showing some resilience in recent away games with a single loss in 4 on their travels, while Burnley have picked up 5 points from a possible 12 in that time.

Marcus Edwards, Axel Tuanzebe and Armando Broja are hoping to return this month with Edwards the most likely to travel on Tuesday.

Head to Head

These teams played out a goalless draw at Turf Moor earlier this season.

Everton won the last 3 fixtures when hosting at Goodison Park as they prepare to host Burnley for the first time in their new home.

Prediction

Like many English clubs that have moved into a new home, there are questions about how Everton are coping?

They did not start too badly at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but the recent form in front of the home fans has been extremely disappointing.

In most cases that might have led to a slip down the League table, but Everton continue to find big away performances to balance things up. The 2-3 win at Newcastle United on Saturday came after suffering consecutive home defeats and David Moyes will be looking for some solutions.

There is nothing wrong with the new Stadium, but perhaps the setting have allowed teams to settle a little more comfortably than they did when visiting Goodison Park.

Mixed performances have been produced with Everton deserving a lot more out of the home defeat to Bournemouth, but struggling to create chances when hosting the likes of Leeds United and Manchester United.

With all that being said, Everton fans will not be so easy on the team if they are not able to get on top of a Burnley team destined for the Championship.

Scott Parker has a tough task in front of him to pick the players up after the 3-4 home defeat to Brentford.

Burnley showed tremendous character to fight back from 0-3 behind when the supporters may have turned, but a late VAR intervention prevented them taking the 4-3 lead and then conceding will have felt like a body blow for all involved. The squad has been stretched by injury and the manner of that defeat on Saturday could have a lingering affect on the level produced days later.

The defensive numbers continue to be really worrying for Burnley and even this Everton team lacking some consistency can take advantage.

Scoring enough goals has been a bit of a problem for Everton of late, but Burnley's defence is the ideal opponent to get back on track all around at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Pick :

Everton 2-0 Burnley
