West Ham United v Manchester City
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 14th March 2026 - Kick Off 8pm
This game is live on TV

West Ham United

The fans will appreciate the fight to earn a spot in the FA Cup Quarter Final and Nuno Espirito Santo is going to be hoping that it continues to fill his West Ham United team with a lot of confidence. Recent Premier League results have pushed the team right behind the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest and West Ham United will play before both of those rivals and Leeds United this weekend.

They may still be 18th in the Premier League table, but there is now just 3 points between The Hammers and Leeds United in 15th place. A win on Saturday evening would pull West Ham United out of the bottom three, which would have a huge impact on both Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur, but the 3-3-8 record at the London Stadium has been the main reason West Ham United find themselves in their current position.

West Ham United were beaten at home by Nottingham Forest in January and things looked bleak, but they have lost just 2 of the last 11 games in all competitions and have produced 4 big Premier League wins in that run. One potential concern is that the majority of the victories have been produced away from the London Stadium and West Ham United have only won 1 of the last 11 here in all competitions in normal time, although they are unbeaten in 5.

Crysencio Summerville has been hugely influential in the West Ham United improvement, but picked up a knock on Monday and is a doubt. Both Oliver Scarles and Adama Traore are others that may have to miss out.

Manchester City

They fought back to earn a spot in the FA Cup Quarter Final, but Manchester City and Pep Guardiola prioritise the biggest trophies and have suffered serious setbacks in the Premier League and Champions League around that Fifth Round Cup success at Newcastle United. The 3-0 defeat at Real Madrid was nothing short of embarrassing for Manchester City on Wednesday and it really felt like another night in which manager Guardiola had gotten his team completely wrong from the outset.

Being three goals down at half time will back up that feeling, while Manchester City dropped two critical points in the Premier League at the beginning of the month. All of a sudden they could find themselves trailing leaders Arsenal by 10 points at kick off on Saturday evening if Mikel Arteta's team have won earlier in the day.

Manchester City had won 6 in a row in all competitions prior to the 2-2 home draw with Nottingham Forest and the 11 game unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt on Wednesday. The side had won 3 away games in a row in all competitions before the first half implosion in the Santiago Bernebeu.

The squad looks pretty healthy, but Pep Guardiola picked a strange lineup on Wednesday and was duly punished. He will likely make some changes to freshen things up with the likes of Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden and Omar Marmoush potentially coming into the starting eleven.

Head to Head

Manchester City were comfortable 3-0 winners against West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium in December.

They have now won 17 of the last 20 Premier League games between these clubs since a home defeat to West Ham United in September 2015.

Manchester City have won 3 in a row at the London Stadium.

Prediction

An injury hit Real Madrid team would have had to be respected, but the Manchester City starting lineup looks like it was put together with little of that on the board.

Pep Guardiola may have won the trophy in 2023, but the Champions League errors that have been made since leaving Lionel Messi and Barcelona have been staggering. In reality Manchester City should have won the big trophy two years before they did, but it was another night when team selection was questioned and ultimately punished.

The Second Leg of the Last 16 tie is not quite a formality and Manchester City will still be confident they can turn things around if they can score the first goal early.

One eye will be on that tie on Tuesday, but Manchester City cannot afford many more slips in the Premier League and this is an important game at the top and bottom of the Division.

An improving West Ham United will not be lacking for confidence of their own, but Crysencio Summerville's potential absence is a huge blow. Nuno Espirito Santo's team have also been at their best away from home over the last couple of months and West Ham United continue to struggle to perform in what has been a sterile atmosphere at the London Stadium, which was not designed with football in mind.

The Hammers have also long had their issues when facing Manchester City- the defeat in December makes it 17 losses in the last 20 Premier League games.

West Ham United have also lost 3 in a row at home against the title challengers and that is hard to ignore, even if the team news around Manchester City is a little uncertain.

However, changes will still be bringing in some very strong attacking players like Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki and Omar Marmoush, while Matheus Nunes and Rayan Ait-Nouri were big misses in the Santiago Bernebeu and can be expected to be recalled.

A much changed Manchester City team won well at Newcastle United last Saturday and they may just do enough to edge to the three points in a game where they will likely need to show some quality in the final third. An early goal could be key to just opening things up against a host that will be happy to sit back and counter, and Manchester City may just give themselves a shot of confidence ahead of another big week of Cup action.
