Canterbury Bulldogs
The Bulldogs enter the contest looking to bounce back after a very disappointing defeat to the Tigers. Coach Cameron Ciraldo has largely stuck with the same lineup, showing confidence in the squad that has quality but has lacked cohesion all season.
Canterbury is languishing in 14th losing 2 for every win, 4-8. However the Dogs do have a winning record at home in 2026, 3-2.
The combination of Matt Burton and Lachlan Galvin in the halves has been under intense scrutiny for all the wrong reasons. Burton's towering kicking game continues to generate field position, while Galvin has added with his running game and ability to engage defenders, but much more improvement is needed if they are to make the playoffs.
The Bulldogs also boast one of the fiercest forward packs in the competition but again, they just look tired and lethargic. Fullback Jacob Kiraz who was one of their best on return last weekend has been named despite carrying a minor calf concern, although reports suggest the issue is not considered serious.
Parramatta Eels
The Parramatta Eels continue to battle through one of the toughest injury runs in the NRL. With key players including Mitchell Moses still sidelined, Parramatta's spine remains heavily depleted. Young halves Joash Papalii and Ronald Volkman have shown glimpses of promise but face a difficult assignment against one of the league's better defensive systems.
The Eels do possess attacking threats. Fullback Isaiah Iongi continues to develop nicely, while Josh Addo-Carr remains capable of producing points from limited opportunities. Parramatta's challenge has been creating enough quality possession to consistently bring those weapons into games.
Parramatta look destined to miss the finals based off current form, sitting 15th with the same record as Canterbury 4-8 and too many injuries to think they will be a force in 2026.
Up front, veterans such as Jack De Belin and Jack Williams will be asked to absorb significant pressure against a Bulldogs pack that has enjoyed considerable success through the middle this season. The Eels have shown admirable resilience throughout the year, but their depth continues to be tested almost weekly.
Odds
Canterbury lead the betting, $1.50 to $2.60, the line 6.5 points and total points is 49.5
The Betting Verdict
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs host the Parramatta Eels on the King's Birthday in a matchup that, on paper, looks heavily weighted toward the home side. However, rivalry games between these western Sydney clubs have a habit of producing surprises, regardless of ladder position.
The Bulldogs thrive on field position, discipline and defensive pressure. With Burton's kicking game and Galvin's running threat, they should be able to consistently force the Eels into long defensive sets. If they establish momentum through Thompson, Max King and their middle rotation, Parramatta could spend large periods trapped in their own half.
For the Eels to compete, they need to turn this into a grind and capitalise on every opportunity that comes their way. Addo-Carr and Iongi provide enough speed to punish mistakes, but those chances may be limited if Canterbury dominate possession.
The concern for Parramatta is with Moses out and the inexperienced halves controlling territory, they often struggle to relieve pressure. Against a Bulldogs side that enjoys suffocating opponents, that could become a major issue over 80 minutes.
The head-to-head history between these clubs is remarkably even, but right now they appear to be heading in opposite directions. The Eels lead slightly 26-29 with one draw from 56 matches played. The Eels won this contest earlier in the season, 38-20, 6 tries to 4.
Prediction: Bulldogs by 14 in a controlled performance
