Switzerland have gone about their business with very little fuss. They finished top of Group B before beating Algeria 2-0 in the Round of 32, once again showing how difficult they are to break down.
Murat Yakin's side doesn't need long spells of possession to win matches. They stay compact, wait for mistakes, and usually make the right decisions when chances come along.
Granit Xhaka continues to set the tempo in midfield, while Manuel Akanji has led a defense that has looked solid throughout the tournament.
Switzerland doesn't score many, but they rarely give opponents easy chances either.
Colombia
Colombia needed just one goal to get past Ghana in the Round of 32, but the result never really looked in doubt.
Néstor Lorenzo's side have carried their excellent recent form into the World Cup, combining disciplined defending with plenty of quality in attack. Luis Díaz has looked sharp whenever Colombia break forward, while James Rodríguez continues to create chances from deeper areas.
One thing Colombia have done well is manage games. They don't panic when they fall under pressure and they are happy to stay patient if the match becomes tight. That could be important against a Swiss team that also prefers to avoid unnecessary risks.
The Betting Verdict
To me, this doesn't look like a game that will open early. Both teams are well organized, neither gives much away, and both are comfortable winning by a single goal.
Switzerland have looked slightly stronger defensively, while Colombia probably carries a little more quality in the final third. It's a very even matchup, and I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed level deep into the second half.
My recommended bet here is under 2.5 goals as the main bet, and another market I looked into that looks attractive is also a draw at half-time at odds around evens.
