TSG Hoffenheim
TSG Hoffenheim have had a mixed couple of weeks. They beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 at home but then lost 2-0 away to Werder Bremen. They also exited the DFB Cup on penalties against Holstein Kiel, making it a frustrating run despite some good performances earlier in the month.
Christian Ilzer's side travelled to England for Thursday's Europa League match against Crystal Palace. Alexander Prass gave TSG Hoffenheim an early lead, but Daichi Kamada equalised in stoppage time for a 1-1 draw. TSG Hoffenheim will be disappointed to have dropped two points after Crystal Palace went down to ten men, but they showed enough attacking threat to create problems.
The squad has several injury concerns. Robin Hranac, Valentin Gendrey, Albian Hajdari, Nathan De Cat and Patrick Wimmer are among the players currently sidelined, while Tim Lemperle's availability needs checking after his recent injury listing. Prass, who missed the Werder Bremen match through suspension, was back in the starting line-up against Crystal Palace.
Schalke 04
Schalke 04 are struggling badly in front of goal. They have scored only four times in eight Bundesliga matches, the lowest total in Germany, and all four goals have come away from home.
Their recent results have also been poor. Schalke 04 lost 0-2 at home to RB Leipzig last weekend, having already been eliminated from the DFB Cup by 2.Bundesliga side Dynamo Dresden. They are now without a win in five Bundesliga matches (three defeats, two draws) and have dropped into the automatic relegation zone.
There is at least some positive team news. Robin Gosens and Soufiane El-Faouzi have returned to training after their collision against Köln, while Luca Vozar is also available again after illness.
The Betting Verdict
TSG Hoffenheim have not been convincing every week, but their home win over Bayer Leverkusen showed what they can do when they get their pressing and attacking play right.
Schalke 04's four goals in eight Bundesliga games tell their own story. I expect the hosts to have more of the ball and create the better chances.
The odds for the home win are fair, so back TSG Hoffenheim to win this match.
