Hertha`s dismal season continues as they lost their ninth consecutive match in all competitions against Heerenveen this Thursday in the Europa League.
Now they are at the rock bottom with just 3 points and will be in real battle to avoid relegation. The only win was way back in the first round against Hannover where they won with Hannover own goal.
After the departure of so many key players, there is nothing bright in this team. Even the new coach Funkel seem to have trouble to shaken things up and move up the squad. The team is virtually with no strikers and some of the midfielders are taking that role.
Not only that they do bad in Bundesliga and the Europa Legue they also dropped out of the DFB Cupe where they lost to 2.Bundesliga side Munchen 1860.
Overall Hertha had a positive head to head score for four years against Wolfsburg, but last season they broke the tradition and lost.
In this match coach Funkel can not count on services of Nicu and Kringe.
Vfl Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg were held to a goalless draw against Besiktas in the Champions League and also their best striker received a red card on that match.
It is obvious that Grafite still struggles to find his last year`s form and has been pressuring himself to much in the last few weeks. That is why Coach Armin Veh granted him a one week home leave “to rest and clear his mind” so he can come back stronger and better. Grafite has been satisfied with that option and this is probably the best thing for the team.
Very good team news is that their phenomenal goalkeeper the Swiss international Diego Benaglio has extended his contract with the team until 30 June 2013.
Wolfsburg have also tied up new deals for strikers Edin Dzeko and Grafite, the team captain Josue, and Zvjezdan Misimovic in recent weeks, which proves how serious this club is by keeping their best players.
Wolfsburg will play with strong line-up with two strikers in this match with Dzeko and probably Misimovic will take more offensive role just behind Dzeko.
There are no reports yet of any injured or absent players for this match, except Grafite.
The Betting Verdict
Hertha has been unbeaten by Wolfsburg in Berlin for eight straight years. Last time when Wolfsburg beat Hertha was back in 2001 when they won 3-1.
However this team of Hertha has been terrible whole season and Wolfsburg must use their chance.
Probably Hertha will buy some strikers in January but until then i do not see any good news for the team.
Hertha will end their losing series some time,surprises in football often happen, but i doubt that it will be this week against the strong team of Wolfsburg.
I`m sure they will give a solid resistance and probably Wolfsburg will win much tougher than expected.
