Can You Trust The Chargers As A Favorite?
San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs
Football: United States, NFL
Sunday 25th October 2009 - Kickoff 1pm ET
Is there a bigger paper tiger than the San Diego Chargers? At the beginning of the season, the Chargers looked like they could genuinely be a Super Bowl contender.
As we enter Week 7 of the NFL betting season, there really isn't anyone around that believes that the Chargers can win the Super Bowl. With another loss, there won't be many people that peg them to make the playoffs.
The Chargers were supposed to have a much improved defense this year and a better running game – two of the flaws that hurt them last year. As you take a look at what has happened so far this season, those two problems have yet to be alleviated.
The Chargers still have LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles but they are still the team that’s tied for the worst rushing offense in the NFL. The Chargers are also dead last in the NFL in third down conversion percentage, allowing opponents to convert nearly 51% of their third downs.
On top of all of that, Chargers head coach Norv Turner may be losing the locker room. The media and fans haven’t had faith in him for years but now the players might be following that trend.
Online betting cappers aren’t sure who to side with in this contest. On one hand, you have the Chargers, who are coming apart at the seams. On the other hand, you have the Kansas City Chiefs who aren’t much of a team themselves.
The Chiefs are fairly pathetic themselves, barely getting their first win of the season last week. The Chiefs couldn’t even score an offensive touchdown.
These two teams play close games, though. In nine of their last 20 meetings, the winner won by four points or less.
On top of that, the favored Chargers are a road favorite on a short week after losing at home on Monday Night Football. It was a must-win game for the Chargers, who now find themselves roughly four games back of the AFC West-leading Denver Broncos.
The Betting Verdict
Even so, it’s hard to bet against the Chargers because they have the better weapons in this game. San Diego have the better quarterback, the better weapons and maybe even the better defense.
While winning at Arrowhead Stadium is never easy, this should be a win for San Diego.
