A Sports Betting Pick by Stephen
Football: FAI CUP
Friday 4th June Kick Off 7.45pm
Derry City ( Home Record W5 D2 L0 )
Bray Wanderers ( Away Record W1 D1 L5 )
Derry City might be playing in the First Division this season but they way they are playing they will be straight back up in the Premier Division again next year. Derry have been one of the top sides in Irish football over the last 2 decades but last year despite finishing in 4th place were relegated due to financial problems as were also third place Cork City.
Boss Stephen Kenny has also had to sell some of his stars including a few to Bohemians but managed to keep some of his top players including Striker Mark Farren who has scored plenty of goals in the Premier Division over the years. Derry also have the advantage of having plenty of excellent young players coming through including strikers David Mcdaid and James Mclean who have got 11 goals between them so far this sesaon.
Derry sit on top of the first division by 7 points to nearest challengers Waterford United who they beat 2-0 last week. They have not lost in 11 league games, 9 of which have been victories. They have only conceded 6 times in the league and only twice at home in their 7 home fixtures.
While Derry have been on the up, Bray Wanderers have been slipping further and further behind in the Premier Division table and sit bottom with just 5 points. These two sides could well be swapping divisions at the end of the season.
Bray have won only once this season and since that game have not won in 7 games and managed just one point, they have also taking some thrashings. A run in the cup would possibly be a bad thing as staying in the Premier Division would be their main concern.
They may be rock bottom but are only 6 points behind Drogheda with 2 games in hand, so their task of staying up is not impossible yet. Anything can happen in the cup but this will be another very tough task for Bray. They are also still missing some of their first choice eleven makin the long trip to Derry for this Cup second round game even harder.
