2006-01-21 - Dundee United vs Aberdeen
A Sports Betting Pick by Beanie
Dundee UnitedAll change at United this week as new manager Craig Brewster takes over from the sacked Gordon Chisholm. Given the money Ediie Thompson has put into the club he'll be hoping he has finally found the man to get United into the top six and everntually beyond, and given Brewsters track record at Inverness there is every possibility that the former United player will be a huge success. United continue to struggle domestically, but under caretaker Billy Dodds they last week negotiated a very tough game at home to Falkirk, who have been an impressive away side this season. A sublime David Fernandez chip and last minute rocket from Derek McInnes gave the Taysiders all three points, and this was minus the impressive Mark Wilson who signed for Celtic this week. In all United paid £200,000 compensation for Brewster and received £500,000 for Wilson, and that to me represents a very useful trade given that United have been poor at the back all season, and Brewster's Inverness side were one of the most solid in the league. The United home stats aren't too impressive, but this bet isn't really a stats based one so they aren't too important.
Aberdeen
Aberdeen have certainly shown a lot more guts and determination of late, coming back from 2-0 down to win at Tannadice in the cup and holding onto a lead against Hibs to win in Edinburgh last week. Perhaps most importantly for Aberdeen is that over those two games their strikers have shown a ruthlessness that has been lacking from their play earlier this season, with Stevie Crawford bagging 3 goals in 2 games and Darren Mackie chipping in with a goal v Hibs too. If they can continue that then Aberdeen could get themselves right back in the hunt for a top 6 place. The H2Hs are also well in favour of the Northerners, with the Dons winning 3 of the last 4 matches vs United.
The Match
I just get the feeling that United are going to win this one with the return of Brewster. I've no doubt he's the right man for the job, and if he can sort out the defence then in players like Fernandez and even now Brewster they have the attacking capabilities to trouble any side in the league. I expect the positive feeling that has been around Tannadice since his appointment to continue into tomorrow, and give United the confidence to take all three points.
