Detroit, who set a league record earlier this season, are in a terrible rut, having lost their last 5 matches. They are in town to face the New York Rangers, a team they have dominated in recent games, but that only ensures their hosts will be fired up to turn them over and give them a thrashing.

New York have lost 12 of their last 13 matches against Detroit, including 5 straight. They showed some serious fight in their last game, winning 4-2 over the New Jersey Devils, not an easy team to beat. That win gave the Rangers a post-season place, and with the pressure off, they can concentrate on taking serious advantage of an injury ravaged Detroit Red Wings team that they must badly want to beat.

Actually, maybe the pressure isn't off, but that's ok with us. Pittsburgh are just a point behind in the division, so New York will likely go for it right from the start. The tactic worked against the Devils, who they scored against early.

Detroit's injuries are seriously hampering them. In their last game, Washington jumped all over them early and were 3-0 up within the first 15 mins! The Capitals beat them 5-3 in the end, and with that kind of defence, you must seriously consider the Over 5 here if you like playing totals.

I'm not going to go through the injuries now, but trust me, Detroit are well and truly hampered by them. If they lose today, they will have matched the franchise's worst losing streak. Seems to be a season of setting records, good and bad.
