2009-06-15 - Brazil vs Egypt
A Sports Betting Pick by Gooner
Football: International, FIFA Confederations Cup
Monday 15th June 2009 - Kickoff 15:00
Brazil (FIFA Rank 5)
Brazil will come into this match full of confidence after having a pair of good results in recent World Cup qualifying in the COMNEBOL region with a 4-0 win over Uruguay in Montevideo and a 2-1 home win over Paraguay to move to the top of the standings.
Expectations are always high whenever Brazil play, but a look at recent results shows that this is totally justified with five wins and a draw (at the high altitude of Ecuador) in the last six games - against some very decent opposition.
Brazil Previous Form
10 Jun 2009 - W 2-1 H v Paraguay (World Cup)
06 Jun 2009 - W 4-0 A v Uruguay (World Cup)
01 Apr 2009 - W 3-0 H v Peru (World Cup)
29 Mar 2009 - D 1-1 A v Ecuador (World Cup)
10 Feb 2009 - W 2-0 N v Italy (Friendly)
19 Nov 2008 - W 6-2 H v Portugal (Friendly)
Egypt (FIFA Rank 40)
In comparision, Egypt have plenty to worry about after a stuttering start to the final phase of World Cup qualification as a draw and a loss leave the "Pharoahs" at the bottom of Group C, where only one side will progress from the four team group.
Egyptian coach Hassan Shehata has said that his side must not be in awe of Brazil, but the manner in which it was said suggested that he knows this will be a hard thing to achieve.
To make matters worse Egypt will be without star striker Amr Zaki for the Confederations Cup after he suffered a hamstring injury, making it harder to see where Egypt might grab a goal.
Egypt Previous Form
07 Jun 2009 - L 1-3 A v Algeria (World Cup)
30 May 2009 - W 1-0 A v Oman (Friendly)
29 Mar 2009 - D 1-1 H v Zambia (World Cup)
11 Feb 2009 - D 2-2 H v Gambia (Friendly)
23 Jan 2009 - W 1-0 H v Kenya (Friendly)
Head to Head
Egypt and Brazil have not faced each other since way back in 1963.
The two countries did play four friendly games in the early sixties, when Brazil won all four games that were played - all in Egypt.
The Betting Verdict
While this game will not be as one-way as the Spain v New Zelaand match, I do expect to see Brazil dominating possession and scoring chances.
From what we have seen of the facilities in South Afirca so far, the ptiches are well prepared, well grassed and perfect for quality technical play.
I expect to see Brazil win with some comfort.
The Pick :
FIXED ODDS BETTING TIP :
I have Brazil as significant favourites, suggesting that prices of 1.25 (1/4) would be fair and at the moment some bookeis are offering significantly higher odds.Take BRAZIL at a good price.
