Liverpool
Liverpool have had a disappointing start to the new season and will be looking to maintain a close link with the teams above them by winning this match. After only 2 defeats last season, Liverpool have matched that total already this.
The Reds have a 2-0-2 record so far this season with 9 goals scored and 7 conceded and this leaves them in 7th spot in the Premier League table. Liverpool are 1-0-1 at Anfield this season, scoring 5 goals but conceding 3. In their last game here, they were stunned 1-3 by Aston Villa.
Daniel Agger and Albert Aquilani remain long term absentees, but Fabio Aurelio could have made enough of a recovery to make the squad.
Burnley
Burnley had a really tough start to the season on paper but will be very happy with their start in terms of points. However, they were comfortably beaten in their last game at Chelsea and will be much more reliant on their home record to keep them up this season.
Burnley are also 2-0-2 so far this season with 2 goals scored and 4 conceded. While they have 2 impressive wins at home over Manchester United and Everton, they are 0-0-2 away from home, having yet to score and conceding 5 goals.
David Nugent is in the squad for Burnley here, but it remains to be seen if he will be given a start.
Head to Head
This is their first meeting in recent memory in the League but Burnley did knock Liverpool out of the FA Cup at Turf Moor 2-1 in 2005.
Prediction
Liverpool are beginning to have their injuries clear up and will be confident after fighting back twice against Bolton in their last match to win 2-3.
I think they will play their strongest line up, even though there is a Champions League meeting with Debrecen on Tuesday, as Rafa Benitez knows they cannot afford to drop silly points even at this early stage.
Burnley will not be looking at trips like this to determine if they stay up or not. They have pleasantly surprised many people with their style of play and effective results achieved, but Chelsea exposed the difference in class between the the top sides and Burnley.
I cant see beyond a Liverpool win which should bump accumulators. I will play Liverpool to win this one comfortably as they did against Stoke so take the Reds on the Asian Handicap
