Rangers suffered a shock 4-1 defeat at St Johnstone on Tuesday night, a result which will only delay a little further their inevitable second title in a row. However its the first time since September 2007 that Rangers have conceded four goals outside an old firm derby when they lost 4-2 at Hearts. Its perhaps a sign of complacency as Rangers have a 10 point lead but Boss Walter Smith denied this and put it down to an excellent St Johnstone performance and they have run them close before this season.
But last week at Hearts Rangers also showed what they are capable of when winning 4-1. They have terrific firepower up front in the partnership of Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller who have 36 SPL goals between them. Rangers also have an excellent record against Hamilton at Ibrox. They beat them 4-1 earlier in the season and last season beat them 7-1 in the SPL while also winning 5-1 in the Scottish Cup and 2-0 in the CIS Cup.
Hamilton have been on a terrific run of late and its been a run which has seen them steer further clear of the relegation zone. This run of 6 unbeaten matches has seen them go 11 points clear of bottom side Falkirk with St Mirren and Kilmarnock also 6 and 7 points behind them. There is still 7 games left to play but Billy Reid's side must not get complacent and continue to battle for every single point to guarantee safety. They survived well in the end last year after a bad start but a good mid season saw a succesful first campaign in the SPL.
But as mentioned above the Accies have had an awful time at Ibrox in the last 2 seasons and have received a few hammering in the SPL and Cup games. But they did take Rangers to extra time in the Cup replay at Ibrox this season only to lose 2-0. More worrying for Billy Reid's side is the probable loss of two key players for this game. Midfielder James Wesolowski is suspended and his form has been outstanding of late, he scored the winner last week against St Johnstone and set up a goal at Kilmarnock the week before. Top scorer Michel Antoine Curiere on loan from Dundee is also only 50-50 to make the game with a knee problem.
