Football – England – League Two
Saturday 10th September 2011 – Kickoff: 1300hrs
It’s local derby day in League Two as Shrewsbury Town and Hereford clash at the Greenhous Meadow Stadium in the early Saturday kickoff.
Shrewsbury Town
The Shrews will be looking to build on their run of three straight wins following impressive displays against Crewe Alexandra 2-0, Swindon Town 2-1 and a 1-0 last-minute win at fellow promotion hopefuls Gillingham last weekend.
Overall, Shrewsbury Town are 3-2-1 7/5, and at home they’re 2-1-0 5/2 and should be in the frame for at least a play-off spot this term.
When you consider their attacking personnel, I really fancy them in this clash to have the upper hand; striker Terry Gornell (2 goals) moved from Accrington Stanley, Marvin Morgan, and the attacking midfielders in Nicky Wroe (2 goals) and Lionel Ainsworth (3 assists) ensure they possess plenty of options going forward.
Strikers James Collins and Tom Bradshaw are available for returns to the squad, but manager Graham Turner may well opt to retain his winning team for now. If this is the case, then they have the strike duo to call upon off the bench I daresay.
Hereford United
Visitors Hereford United have endured a miserable start to the season and see themselves just one place off the bottom thanks to Plymouth Argyle’s current plight. The Bulls were winless in their first five matches but halted their skid with an 85th minute goal from Sam Winnall to beat Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend.
Looking at their results so far though and you have to say that they struggle to score goals at the best of times; they’ve drawn a blank in four of their first six matches and have conceded 9 goals and scored just 2.
Manager Jamie Pitman will be expecting three key players back for this trip as midfielders Rob Purdie, James Colbeck and defender Stefan Stam have all returned to training. However, keeper Adam Bartlett will continue to be sidelined with a thigh injury.
The Betting Verdict :
Head to head and Shrewsbury historically have the upper hand with a home record of 5-1-1 17/4 and have won the last three meetings against Hereford 2-0, 4-0 and 3-1.
I’m therefore backing the Shrews for a home win here, perhaps edging it 2-1. The Pick :
Shrewsbury Town 2-1 Hereford United
