PREVIEW
The St. Louis Cardinals are now 20-11 and are on a 4 game winning streak, including a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks. They have banged in 30 runs in that run and will now take on Atlanta Braves, who are 19-13. These two have not met since last season, when the Braves had a horrible September and dropped out.
Atlanta come into this struggling a bit for runs. They had been on a tear, scoring 44 during a 5 game stretch but then went quiet against the Cubs, netting just 4 runs in total and losing 2 of the 3 games. Not the best form to come here in, as the Cardinals are scoring nearly 7 per home game!
The Braves send out Mike Minor, who is 2-2 with a 5.97ERA. Since opening the season with 3 strong starts, allowing an average of just 2 per game, he has now allowed 7 and 8 runs in his last 2 games respectively. He's walking batter too, 4 in 5 innings against Colorado, and that kind of work tonight would be suicide against the Cardinals, who are on fire. Lance Berkman is back in the Cardinals line-up today, and then there are Beltran, Freese, Holliday....it goes on.
The Cardinals counter with Jaime Garcia, who is 2-2 with a 3.76ERA. He has lost his last 2 starts, but that means we will get a good pitcher even more concentrated than ever, to get his record back in the W column. What is encouraging is his career record against Atlanta, having never lost to them, going 2-0.
BETTING VERDICT
They've been money all season for us, so we have to stick with the Cardinals. With a decent price at home, I'll stick to the straight win.
The Pick :
St. Louis Cardinals
