Inter Milan (3rd W10 D1 L4)
Inter Milan bounced back with a 1-0 win over Palermo last weekend after a poor run of three games without a win in Serie A.
It was another unconvincing performance from Inter though, only a 74th minute own goal from Palermo’s Santiago Garcia made the difference.
Inter also failed to win their Thursday game in Europa League against Neftci Baku, but Andrea Stramaccioni fielded an experimental eleven, six of whom were under the age of 20.
The Thursday game also saw the return of Antonio Cassano to the first-team with the Italy international having been suspended for the previous two games, so we should also see him against Napoli.
Inter Milan will be without suspended defender Walter Samuel, which means that Silvestre will partner Ranocchia and Jesus in their three man defense.
Napoli (2nd W10 D3 L2)
Just like Stramaccioni, Walter Mazzarri fielded an understrength squad on Thursday in their Europa League match against PSV Eindhoven to preserve fitness levels for the upcoming game against Inter.
However, unlike Inter, Napoli actually met a more than decent PSV side which managed to get away with a victory from San Paolo. It was actually Napoli’s first home European defeat in 14 years.
Napoli will now travel to Milano in the attempt to maintain their unbeaten run, they haven’t lost in Serie A since the end of October when Atalanta got the better of them.
Goran Pandev returned from an injury and received some playing time against PSV, he is not yet prepared to play 90 minutes though, but he should be the first option for a substitution on Sunday. Cavani and Insignie will probably be Napoli’s attacking due, supported by Hamsik.
The Betting Verdict
This fixture have always produced a lot of goals, there’ve been at least three goals scored in the last six clashes between these two at Giuseppe Meazza, so we should look forward to an excellent game.
The last time Napoli played against Inter in Milano they’ve pulled off a superb performance at the end of which they’ve won 3-0 with goals from Campagnaro, Maggio and Hamsik.
Another result like that is highly unlikely, but Napoli does have the strength to leave Milano unbeaten, Inter has been far from great after their superb 3-1 victory over Juventus from the beginning of November.
Inter Milan conceded two goals in two of their last three home games in Serie A against Cagliari and Sampdoria, so taking Napoli to score twice here at excellent odds against a shaky Inter defense is certainly worth a shot, small stakes of course.
