There is plenty of positivity within the Cleveland Guardians (60-65) dugout, despite falling 5.5 games out of the Divisional lead in the American League Central. At the moment there is also a game between the Guardians and the top three of the Wild Card race in the American League, but the recent slump in form has not affected the confidence of the players who insist they can turn things around just as quickly.
A positive outlook is a good thing, but Cleveland need to start finding some consistency with fewer than forty regular season games left on the schedule.
They are going to be favoured in this inter-League series against the San Francisco Giants (51-73) who have massively underachieved this season. Instead of chasing a post-season berth, the Giants have only picked up more wins than the Colorado Rockies in the National League and just lost two of three games against that National League West rival this past weekend.

The rookie season ended with a limited sample, but Carson Whisenhunt is moving with an ERA of over 1.00 wider than 2025 and he has struggled with his consistency this season. In half of the games started, Whisenhunt has allowed fewer than three runs and picked up the decision win each time, but the other half have ended with the young pitcher giving up at least four runs and ultimately saddled with the decision loss.
He had been 0-3 with a 10.80 ERA in three consecutive starts, but Carson Whisenhunt bounced back to hold the Houston Astros to a single run into the 6th Inning and picked up the decision win.
This is going to be the first time Whisenhunt has started against the Cleveland Guardians, but the pitcher has allowed nine runs in 14 Innings thrown against American League opponents this season.
Cleveland will counter with Foster Griffin who was a key piece they picked up ahead of the trade deadline with the Playoffs in mind.
A 12-3 record with a 3.06 ERA in twenty-two starts for the Washington Nationals meant Foster Griffin made waves on his return to the Major Leagues after spending a number of years campaigning in Japan. He was long linked with a move to a contender and Foster Griffin is looking to back up his second start for the Cleveland Guardians after being roughed up in the debut.

Inconsistent performances across the board are holding back the Cleveland Guardians, but they have an opportunity to win a series and get back on track.
Over the next three days, Cleveland host the struggling San Francisco Giants and they do look to have a serious edge on the mound to open this three game set.
Foster Griffin bounced back from a rough debut to help the Guardians to a win and he has already moved through this Giants batting lineup with confidence once this season.
It is Carson Whisenhunt who will be duelling Griffin and the sophomore has been feast or famine in his six starts.
However, Whisenhunt has allowed twelve runs in a little under 12 road Innings thrown this season and Cleveland can exploit that.
