Eintracht Frankfurt opened the Bundesliga season with an entertaining 3-3 draw at Union Berlin, but it will feel like two points dropped after they led 3-1. Younes Ebnoutalib scored all three for the Eagles, only for Tim Skarke to rescue Union with a 93rd-minute equalizer. Eintracht Frankfurt showed plenty of attacking threat, but the late collapse also exposed some defensive weaknesses.
They were far more ruthless in the DFB-Pokal, crushing sixth-tier St. Tönis 11-0. That result aside, the bigger positive is the attacking form, with Eintracht Frankfurt scoring 14 goals across their first two competitive matches.
There are some absences to manage for this match, including Ritsu Doan, Nnamdi Collins, Ansgar Knauff and Jessic Ngankam.
Augsburg
Augsburg showed a very stable opening display, beating newly promoted Schalke 04 3-0 at home. Michael Gregoritsch opened the scoring, Anton Kade added a second late on, and Rodrigo Ribeiro completed the win in stoppage time. They were already in control before Schalke 04 were reduced to ten men, so the result was not simply a product of the red card.
They also won their DFB-Pokal opener 2-0 at Energie Cottbus, giving them two clean-sheet victories from their two competitive games so far.
The task gets considerably harder in Frankfurt, though, and Augsburg have several players unavailable, including Tim Breithaupt, Calvin Brackelmann and Sima Suso.
The Betting Verdict
This looks like a very interesting matchup to close this week’s Bundesliga round.
Eintracht Frankfurt have looked dangerous going forward last week, but their inability to protect a 1-3 lead at Union Berlin is a warning sign. Augsburg, meanwhile, have started with two clean sheets and should be confident after their dominant win over Schalke 04.
The market makes Frankfurt favorites, but it's a bit of a tricky game. With both sides showing enough attacking quality to cause problems, goals look more appealing than taking a short home win.
My best (and main) bet here is going with over 2.5 goals. Both teams to score is a high possibility, while I expect Eintracht Frankfurt to narrowly edge the game.
