2012-02-04 - Burnley vs Peterborough United
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football – England – Championship
Saturday 4th February 2012 – Kickoff: 1500hrs
In-form Burnley will be looking to break into the play-off positions when they take on mid-table team Peterborough United at Turf Moor on Saturday.
Burnley (9th)
Home : 5-4-5 22/15
The Clarets have lost just once in their last seven Championship matches which was a 1-2 loss away at Leeds United, but wins against Brighton, Doncaster Rovers, Hull City, Middlesbrough and hapless Nottingham Forest have maintained Burnley’s play-off ambitions and they now could go into the top six with all three points against visitors Peterborough.
Burnley’s home record stands at 5-4-5 22/15 and the Lancashire club have lost just once in their last five at home. Forwards Jay Rodriguez (10 goals, 3 assists) and Charlie Austin (9 goals, 2 assists) are the main scoring threats, along with creative winger Ross Wallace (5 goals, 5 assists) and plenty of ammunition from the likes of Kieran Trippier (5 assists), Junior Stanislas (5 assists) and Keith Treacy (4 assists).
Peterborough United (17th)
AWAY : 3-4-7 17/22
Visitors Peterborough United travel north with no wins in their last five along with just one win on the road in their last eight away matches which was at poor Nottingham Forest.
Losses against Hull City, Brighton and Portsmouth have ensured that Darren Ferguson’s men remain in mid-table limbo and whilst they have no immediate relegation worries, they will need to improve their away form to be safe.
Posh’s away form currently stands at 3-4-7 17/22, and despite possessing firepower of their own, their susceptible defence have undone the front men’s work on several occasions. Midfielder Grant McCann (8 goals, 3 assists) leads the way along with Emile Sinclair (7 goals, 3 assists), Paul Taylor (6 goals, 3 assists), George Boyd (5 goals, 7 assists) and Lee Tomlin (5 goals, 5 assists) as back-up.
However, just one clean sheet on the road tells it’s own story and the chances of closing Burnley out are very slim indeed.
The Betting Verdict :
Burnley’s home form is solid enough right now to take all three points here; I expect both teams to score but Burnley to edge it 2-1.
