The reigning European Champions will start defending the title at home against Monchengladbach, a team that often showed great performances against Bayern Munich in the past few seasons. Last season Bayern Munich struggled in both games against Monchengladbach, and Monchengladbach was one of the rare teams that managed to stay unbeaten in Munich, holding the Bavarians to a 1-1 draw.
Bayern Munich had a great pre-season and managed to stay unbeaten in all of their games. Interestingly, Bayern Munich will play in a 4-1-4-1 formation this season, which is quite different from Jupp Heynckess` team formation last season.
Last week, Bayern Munich played a very relaxing DFB Cup match against the lower side of Schwarz-Weiss Rehden, thrashing them 0-5 with a hat-trick of goals of Thomas Muller.
Great news for Bayern Munich is the return in the starting line-up of Bastian Schweinsteiger, who was pulled out of the game last week with a knee injury and was doubtful for selection.
Borussia Monchengladbach
Monchengladbach had a very good last season, finishing eight at the table and also played in the Europa League, but it will be very tough for them to repeat that success this season.
During the summer, Monchengladbach brought only one notable player and that is the attacking midfielder Max Kruse, joining the team from SC Freiburg. Kruse was one of the better players for SC Freiburg last season, scoring 11 goals and making 8 assists for his team.
Monchengladbach struggled in their pre-season games, and last week they unexpectedly lost 5-4 on penalties in the DFB Cup match against Darmstadt 98. The third division team was a much better opponent, and Monchengladbach players looked like they still lack match fitness.
The Betting Verdict
Bayern Munich are obviously too powerfull for Monchengladbach and i expect them to win fairly easily. First rounds are always a bit tricky, but Bayern Munich should do the job and win here, scoring at least couple of goals.
