Partick Thistle were handed a rude awakening in last weekend’s season opener away from home at St Johnstone in the Scottish Championship as The Jags suffered a comprehensive 5-1 beating at McDiarmid Park, but the hosts will return to Firhill Stadium for this upcoming clash with Greenock Morton on Saturday afternoon.
Last week’s heavy defeat has landed Partick Thistle in early trouble as Mark Wilson’s side sit bottom of the Championship table after only one game but the hosts will be keen to set the record straight this Saturday, especially as they had previously collected six wins on the trot overall.
An impressive Scottish League Cup group campaign resulted in Partick Thistle finishing top of Group B with a 100% winning record following victories gained over Edinburgh City, Stranraer, Queen of the South and Ross County respectively.
Greenock Morton picked up a point on the opening day of the Scottish Championship season last weekend as they drew 0-0 at home with Dunfermline and they too enjoyed relative success in the Scottish League Cup group campaign as well.
Morton finished runners-up in Group G behind Motherwell and sneaked into the next round of the competition thanks to being one of the best runners-up in the group stage after recording important wins against the likes of Peterhead, Stenhousemuir and Clyde.
However, if Morton are to feature among the play-off places this season, The Ton will need to improve upon a pretty ordinary away record which finished up on 4-7-7 17/30 which included slipping to three defeats in their last six games on the road.
The Betting Verdict
Partick Thistle have held the upper hand over Morton in previous exchanges as The Jags have lost just once in the last 10 meetings between the two clubs.
