Greenock Morton will entertain Aberdeen in this 2nd round clash of the Scottish League Cup when the two teams face off at Cappielow Park on Saturday afternoon with the hosts heading into this cup-tie on the back of two stalemates in the Scottish Championship.
Morton had previously finished runners-up in Group G behind the group winners Motherwell thanks to picking up wins against Peterhead, Stenhousemuir and Clyde, but an indifferent start to the new Championship campaign has seen The Ton involved in draws with Dunfermline and Partick Thistle.
Last season, Morton had failed to progress from the group stage and round 2 of this season’s League Cup competition could be where Dougie Imrie’s side make an exit.
Aberdeen have struggled to rekindle the euphoria of beating Celtic in the Scottish Cup final back in May so far in this new campaign as The Dons currently sit bottom of the Scottish Premiership after the opening two games.
League defeats at the hands of Hearts and Celtic have handed Jimmy Thelin’s side a slightly worrying start to the season but although they hit the road for this upcoming League Cup clash with Morton, this looks the sort of game Aberdeen could kick-start their new season.
Aberdeen finished the regular season in the Premiership with modest stats of 5-4-7 16/28 but the visitors should have enough quality to return to winning ways at Cappielow Park.
