A Sports Betting Pick by Auls

Crystal Palace v Liverpool
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 27th September 2025 - Kick Off 3pm

Crystal Palace

The overall summer transfer window may not have been viewed in positive light, but keeping hold of Oliver Glasner as manager seems a big boost for Crystal Palace. After helping the team pick up silverware twice in the space of three months, Glasner has also guided Crystal Palace into the Conference League Group Stage and helped them make a positive start to the new Premier League season.

The Eagles have moved up the standings and perched in 5th place after the victory at the London Stadium last weekend and they are now one of two teams yet to taste a top flight defeat. The majority of the 9 points on the board have been earned away from home and Crystal Palace have a 0-2-0 record at Selhurst Park in the top flight where they have scored and conceded a single goal.

Crystal Palace have pushed the unbeaten run on another game after the deserved 1-2 win over West Ham United, while the fans will be looking forward to the first away Conference League Group game later this week. The side are unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions at Selhurst Park, although 3 of the 4 fixtures played here this season have ended in draws, including both League games against Nottingham Forest and Sunderland.

The big story in the build up to this game will be around the fitness of Ismaila Sarr- he is back in training and expected to play some part, although whether that is in the first eleven or as a substitute is yet to be decided. Last week Yeremy Pino picked up a knock and he may not be fit enough to face the Champions.

Liverpool

Once again someone popped up with a late goal to turn a draw into a victory for Liverpool as they progressed into the League Cup Fourth Round, although it proved to be a costly winner. Arne Slot was far from impressed with his striker Hugo Ekitike being sent off for taking off his shirt and he has laid the blame firmly at Ekitike's door.

They will return to Premier League action this weekend after a very positive last set of results which concluded with title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City splitting the points. That means Liverpool are not only the one team with a perfect Premier League record, but they are already 5 points clear in the defence of the title won last season.

Liverpool may have lost the Community Shield on Penalties, but they have won 7 in a row in all competitions and that has given them early momentum for a second campaign in a row under Slot's guidance. Injury time goals have been needed to secure narrow away wins at Newcastle United and Burnley in the Premier League, but ultimately the wins will build up that confidence.

Hugo Ekitike will serve a suspension and that means Alexander Isak will lead the line. Giovanni Leoni made his debut for Liverpool, but the 18 year old defender suffered a serious looking injury and has to be considered a doubt for the remainder of the calendar year at least. The likes of Alisson, Milos Kerkez, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil Van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominic Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah were all rested on Tuesday and should be restored to starting roles.

Head to Head

Crystal Palace fought back from a goal behind twice and eventually beat Liverpool on Penalties in the Community Shield back in August.

Last season Liverpool took four points from Crystal Palace in the Premier League and the majority were earned from a 0-1 win at Selhurst Park.

Liverpool have won 10 of their last 11 games played at Selhurst Park in all competitions.

Prediction

This is a fascinating game and Crystal Palace fans will take plenty of positives out of the Community Shield win over Liverpool.

However, it should be noted that Eberechi Eze played in that game and Ismaila Sarr scored the second equaliser- Eze has since departed, while Oliver Glasner and the entire Crystal Palace faithful will be hoping Sarr is fit to play.

If he is, Crystal Palace have begun this season well enough to believe they can earn a rare positive home result against Liverpool.

In recent seasons Crystal Palace have just struggled against what has been a powerful Liverpool attack, but this team is playing with a lot of confidence. They have proven to be pretty resilient defensively, with Liverpool target Marc Guehi a key having had his transfer cancelled late in the summer window, and Crystal Palace are creating chances.

However, the absence of Eze and Sarr has been felt and that does raise some doubts with the likelihood that Crystal Palace need at least one goal to secure a positive result. Even that may not be enough with the way Liverpool have been playing, but Oliver Glasner may be privately confident that his team can do more in the final third considering the issues the Champions have been having at the back.

Arne Slot's men are going to be without Hugo Ekitike, who has made a really good start to his Liverpool career, but that means Alexander Isak will be leading the line.

Suffice to say Liverpool will head to South London with plenty of confidence of their own and still expecting something to click to produce stronger performances. They have not needed to be at their best to win 7 in a row in all competitions and the late goals continue to build the momentum and confidence within the squad.

On current form you do have to say that it feels the Liverpool run is unsustainable- the performances have allowed opponents to give as good as they get, but the back to back injury time winners in away League games at Newcastle United and Burnley have perhaps papered over the small cracks.

Crystal Palace are more than capable of exploiting those, but the lack of goals is a concern.

Despite that, Liverpool look short at odds against and backing Crystal Palace with the start feels like the right side.

Any in-play backers may want to keep the powder dry in this one- if the game is level with ten or fifteen minutes remaining, it may be worth backing Liverpool to win at what will be odds of around 3.00 or better. If Crystal Palace are leading, backing another late Liverpool goal may offer big odds too and on current form you cannot rule out yet another body blow to the title challengers behind the Champions.

However, this is a preview ahead of the game actually being played out and Crystal Palace look strong enough to avoid a defeat for a second time against this Liverpool team in the 2025/26 season.
