2008-05-03 - Blackburn Rovers vs Derby County
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Derby who has yet to win away on their travels will face a tough test against a Blackburn here but interestingly though is that the last four Premiership meetings between Rovers and County have all been won by a single-goal margin.
Mark Hughes side will be confident of getting maximum points though as Blackburn have lost only one game to a team in the bottom half of the table this season. The visitors are on such poor form and have conceded 14 goals in their last three league games and if the Rams lose this match it will be their worst away run of the season which is six successive defeats in a row now.
Blackburn are fresh from their win against Portsmouth and now takes on Derby who are already relegated to the Championships next season. Blackburn beat FA Cup finalist Portsmouth last weekend . The visitors have nothing more to play for but pride and if they fail to get maximum points from their last two games then they will become the worst team in Premiership history taking the title away from Sunderland.
Mark Hughes side will miss the services of striker Benni McCarthy as he is out with a hamstring injury. Even though McCarthy has done some light training, but Jason Roberts is expected to start upfront together with Roque Santa Cruz. Hughes will hope that defender Christopher Samba will be able to recover in time from a thigh injury and start at centre back after he was forced out of last Sunday's win following a collision with Niko Kranjcar. Should he misses out then Dutch centre-back Andre Ooijer will fill in for him.
The visitors will miss the services of vastly experienced defender Alan Stubbs after he underwent a cartilage knee operation to make sure he will be able to start next season. Their defense has taken a further hit by the absence of Dean Leacock with a hamstring injury joining Stubbs on the sidelines.
Derby are also without midfielder David Jones but they will have the services of Kenny Miller and Hossam Ghaly who have been passed fit. Robert Earnshaw could get a start here after he scored his first Premier League goal for the club last Monday.
