2008-09-06 - Texas A&M at New Mexico Lobos

Venue: University Stadium, Albuqurque, NM
Date: Saturday 6th September 2008
Week 2 sees a matchup between two teams who both suffered bad losses in the opening week.
Texas A&M (the aggies) were humiliated at home by lowly Arkansas State in probably the biggest upset of week 1. The Lobos lost to very tough conference foe TCU, although the manner of the defeat must have been dissapointing.
Texas A&M
The opening weekend was poor for the Aggies but they can take some positives from the game,.
QB McGee had a fairly solid game, completing 19 of 27 for 170 yards, he was let down by two INT's, we will see if this was simply first week nerves while playing a new system.
On the ground Goodson rushed for 124 yards on 24 carries with 2 TD;s thrown in.
The story of the game was turnovers though, A&M coughed it up 4 times leading to many FG's which were ultimately the difference.
On the defensive side the positive note is that they only conceded 1 TD in spite of give the opponents the ball so frequently, the rushing defence would have caused concern with nearly 6 yards a carry being allowed.
New Mexico
The Lobos went into week 1 full of optimism after a great 2007 including a nice bowl win, spirits were dashed after a sound beating at the hands of Texas Christian though.
Of most concern will have been the offence, both rushing and passing struggled mightily and the Lobos finished the game with a poor 186 yards in total and a miserable 56 on the ground. They fumbled the ball 4 times (only lost possesion 1 time) and were intercepted a further two times.
The defence at least put up respectable numbers but were still powerless to stop TCU scoring 3 TD's

The Verdict
The betting line is currently Texas A&M -2.5, this seems like a massive overreaction to their first week upset, I believe this was simply part of the bedding required whenever a new coach takes the helm.
Expect to see a much improved performance this week as the team has that game under its belt.
The Lobos showed me nothing to make me believe that they have a shot at beating a team from one of the major conferences and bets should be placed on Texas A&M in line with this.
BEST BETTING TIP :
As the line is so low I suggest a safer pick of:Texas A&M to win @ 1.826
